avoiding VZ data plan made me a Skype user

Several months ago I changed PDA phones (I went from a Kyocera 6035 to a Kyocera 7135) and VZ kicked me off my minutes-only data plan (MOU?). My Palm-OS wireless applications, like DA (directory assistance with map/directions), VNC (remote desktop), and IRC (chat) became so incredibly expensive (no free nights/weekend airtime) that I just gave up. I bought a Sharp Zaurus SL-6000 and I just became a beta user for Skype. The downside is that battery life is relatively short when using Skype (or any other internet application ... the Zaurus runs linux desktop called qtopia that does everything the new Samsung i730 does) and Skype doesnt support voicemail on the Zaurus. How ironic that my first VZ phone (a qualcomm 860 circa 199😎 had a wap brow...

Except that would only work when it's in range of a WLan. Pretty sure Verizon has better coverage than that.
