Quick2Net Question

GrandmasterB

Aug 15, 2005, 6:22 PM
Is Quick2Net still available? I have a evdo phone. But, I _dont_ want access to the high speed network. Just occasional access at 14.4 with my laptop where I can check email and process credit cards remotely (which doesnt take much bandwidth at all).

If so, how do I access it? I read something about dialing #777 with your modem. Is this correct? Anyone know how it works? The verizon site wasnt very clear on what method of connecting w/modem gets you to the high speed vs low speed connection.

At this time there are no EVDO phones that have the Mobile Office kit for internet access.

I dont know anything about the mobile office kits. I do know I can connect no problem to my phone w/ a data cable.

So really the question isnt if a mobile office kit is available, but if Quick2Net is still available, and if yes, how do I use it?

Quick2Net should still be available but not on an evdo phone for tethered solution

ok, thanks.

I have a data cable and have no problem setting the phone up as a modem right now. I can dial in to a dialup ISP and connect at 14.4. But, that ISP is a very basic 10hr/month setup I keep for backup purposes. So I was hoping to use quick 2 net for nights & weekends when on the road. Maybe I'll just give it a shot, and see if Verizon reams me with fees 😁

Appearently it IS supported, because I can dial in to an ISP without a problem.

Is Verizon saying that for my $39.95 I dont get as many features as someone with the same plan that has a less expensive phone? Do you have anything to Cut and Paste that says Quick 2 Net (14.4) is not available?

I need to reiterate - I _DONT_ want 'broadband'. I'm not trying to get free broadband. I want 14.4k. I'm just looking for confirmation that this 'quick 2 net' thing either exists or doesnt exist.

The problem with verizon is that if you go to their website, there's a whole lot of text, but very little in the way of hard information.

I understand what you're saying. They aren't very clear on if that's okay or not. This is the only part that would worry me:

If you use your V CAST phone as a modem to access
> the Internet, intranets or other data networks, you will be violating
> the terms of your V CAST service and we may terminate your service

Thanks. I did see that bit about the V CAST phones, but I had the suspicion they were referring to using the phone, which is basically an internet device, to tap into their underlying evdo network for internet access. It sounded odd that by buying a better phone, you end up with fewer services.

I did get an email back from Verizon on this. The answer was a bit more clear. Quick 2 Net is now called Quick Net Connect, and is still available.

The basic Mobile Office service will allow a connection speed of 14.4 Kbps to the default Verizon Wireless QNC (Quick Net Connect) circuit switched connection or your existing Internet Service Provider. There is no additional access fee for this basic Mobile Office QNC service, as usage i

I thought you would automatically default to the highest speed, so you will probably get about144kb per second as i have been told. I also heard you can connect to evdo the same way but the phone has a maximum bandwidth so it isn't much faster than the 1x
