Every so often, when researching a new phone, I'd check out Phone Scoop and was always amused at the bickering in Forums about what was best phone, what carrier has best coverage etc.
Now I'm ready to add my support to the Verizon bashers. After 11 years as a loyal Verizon (going back to Bell Atlantic Mobile) customer, their lousy customer service is forcing me to seek divorce. Tomorrow I am porting all 4 of my Family share lines to Cingular.
I won't knock their coverage, but don't believe anything positive you read regarding VZW Customer Service. It is terrible and they do not stand behind their products.
...
Give it a chance Jake, this could be a real customer.
...
Care to elaborate on what has made you so bitter. And remember when you talk about a CELLULAR SERVICE PROVIDER their product is the service not the phone.
...
Sorry but I disagree. The phone is also their product. After getting tech help at VZW store several times over the last few months for a lousy phone (Kyocera SE 47 Slider) I returned it again tonight. After waiting in too long of a line, I was told I could not buy a new phone at the subsidized price, that I would have to pay full retail $200 or so over the subsidized price. Only other choice was to bring phone back next day for tech to examine (no tech there tonight). Phone still under manufacturer warranty.
If you are a VZW CS Rep I'm sure you'll reply: Company Policy, Manufactures responsibility, etc. etc.
I won't argue with you. That is your perspective as CS rep. My perception as an 11 year customer, with a 4 line account that aver...

your job as consumer is to read your manual, true customer service is to help you, and quit being such a crybaby
...
Maybe getting a full understanding of the situation would be in order first. He didn't say he doesn't understand the phone so the manual would be usesless at this point.
Unfortunately, it's attitudes like this that will end up giving Verizon a bad name in customer service.

I'd say your job as a customer was to go to any RadioShack store and ask which phone was the least reliable, and they would tell you any phone by Kyocera. 🙂 I don't work for RS anymore, but when I did, I had nothing but trouble with Kyocera phones. A lot of co-workers agreed. However, I don't think Verizon would have ever known that.

If you've got a problem with a handset and it's under warranty then swap it out. All retail stores and phone tech support can send you a replacement unit. That's pretty easy. So what's the problem?
...
Your right, swapping out the phone is easy. But depending on the problem it may not fix it. We only know a part of the story here and without all the knowledge needed no one can correctly fix the issue.
...
Very true, but if it's a problem with the phone then that should fix it.
...
I'm not disagreeing here, but sometimes we need to look beyond those things and see what else could be causing the problem. After 3 years as an in store CSR I learned that there ara a lot of things that just swapping out the phone can't fix.
...
Do you mind giving some examples, for my own information? 🙂
...
Motorola phones. Best example I have.
Customer comes into store because phone won't charge unless you hold the cord at a certain angle. You get a NEW charger and try it and see that it IS a problem with the phone. The tech opens the phone and sauders the charging port and it works then.
Next day, same customer, same problem. You're able to replicate the problem but this time you swap the phone. Customer is OK with this but unhappy with the time lost from their life.
2 weeks later, same customer, same problem, same resolution. Customer is more frustrated know than they were last time.
1 month later, same customer same problem. You can make many assumptions as to why (after market charger, user abuse, bad replacement phones.....

That makes sense, thanks.

Anytime, glad I could help clear this up.

I can definitely understand your frustration with all of this, but rest assured, if I didn't think you were a customer, I wouldn't have asked for details.
There are many more options available to you and I would like to see if there is one that will suit you needs. Please feel free to e-mail me and we can discuss this off line as this is NOT an issue that should be worked out in here.

thats nice that you are offering to help him, thats very kind of you.

I guess we can blame you for buying a phone that you probably got (i'm almost sure) free??? FREE PHONES ALWAYS SUCK... (unless its a buy one get one free)
Basicallly you get what you pay for.
...
Sometimes true but not always, look at how many expensive Motorolas there are. I think they have the highest return rate of anything.
...
wow such an attitude like that is shined down upon. I hope you are not in the wireless industrie as that statement is so untrue. I know free nokias that hold up better then samsungs. I have a 710 that I paid $400 and it gives me nothing but problems, I guess the more the phone the more the problems? SO I get what I paid for?
...
I just called the gas company and told them my water heater isn't working right and told them to give me a free water heater. They didn't go for it. It's the only gas appliance in my house and i've paid my bill on time for 10 years! Why won't they give me something for free after all this time? It's the method I have to use their service that I pay for. I threatened to change to an electric water heater but they didn't care. It would only cost them like $300 for a new one anyway, they have the money.
THE GAS COMPANY DOESN'T CARE HOW LONG YOU'VE BEEN A CUSTOMER! THEY'RE EVIL!
...
Vatothe, don't you think you're being a lot immature about this?
...
Not at all. How is this any different than someone demanding a free phone that costs Verizon $300?
...
The customer was legitimately ignorant. You're just acting stupid.

wow you are blinded, are you really that serious? OK so Verizon would do anything for me as long as I am calm. Ok so will they replace a water damaged phone that has no insurance for free as long as I am calm? And the replacement has to be equal to what I have which is a 710 and it has to be new. You said they will "DO ANYTHING TO MAKE ME HAPPY" and I think that would make me happy. Some ppl are just stuck on stupid and have this thought that their company is the best until they get bitten by a bug I like to call reality. When you start having issues and can not get them resolved for some reason like the original poster, let me know that you still feel they ar ethe best and made you happy even though it was not taken care as you thought it w...

Let me get this straight. You are disasisfied with Verizon customer service (after 11 years) and expect to get better service from Cingular of all companies? Well, good luck. Let us know in a few months how all is going. I'd really be interested. Please let us know about call quality and reception, billing issues and well as phone issues.
I've never hear of anyone praising Cingular's customer service. I was with them for a while, and still have a prepaid acct. with them. Customer service is not their strong suit.
...
He lives in Pittsburgh and Cingular's coverage and service has provided myself and another user (SForsyth) each with a better experience than Verizon. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Cingular's coverage in Southwestern Pennsylvania, and I would even go as far as saying that Cingular's service is superior (here).
As far as billing issues go, those have been blown out of proportion for the entire company. Anybody that I know who uses Cingular as their service has never once experienced billing issues, including myself. You only ever here about the bad, not the good.
Phone issues? Those aren't really a problem at Cingular. Obviously it's a different story with Verizon.
I will praise Cingular's customer service right here, r...

Sounds like you've done your homework, and know what you're doing! I know in different markets, diff. carriers are better. I know we all have a tendency to generalize. I know where I live, Chicago, the best carriers by far are Verizon and UC Cellular, followed by T-mobile. Obviously, from your experience, Cingular's the best choice for you now. I was seriously just asking that you let us in a few months how all is going, as you will be an expert with both Cingular and Verizon service.
I don't know the Pittsburgh market that well. I've been there many time and know they have lots of hills which cause problems for cell service, and, I've had trouble in certain areas in and around Pitts.with both Sprint and Verizon. Sounds like Cingular's...

Or Gainesville, Florida...Sprint is cantankerous up there. Go Gators!

Well RUFF, some of what you say I agree with, some not. JD Power agrees with you that Cingy is good in the Northeast, and I've heard that from ppl I know as well. So good on Cingy there.
But I don't really think we can say that Cingy's billing and CS problems are non-issues. I know ppl who've had billing problems with them (its part of why they left), and Cingy's CS consistently does mediocre-to-poor in surveys (and by word-of-mouth).
Since you're up on Cingy, do you know if they're having any success in addressing those issues lately?

I doubt it, info like that is given out on a need to know basis 😁 ... The info itself is probably discussed behind closed doors with exec management only. The only way humans find out diddly is when an independant study/survey is done by JD Power, Consumer Reports, etc, etc and their ratings change... Now that would never stop exec mgmt of say Cingular hiring a consulting firm and paying them to find out why people don't like them... They could bring in the two Bobs...

If it sucked so much then why did you stay with us for 11 years? It obviously wasn't that bad. My guess? You didn't get your way 1 time and therefore are throwing a hissy fit because of it when you weren't eligible or didn't deserve what you were asking for anyway.

Way Rambo.I both Cingular and Verizon service and phones. Verizon CS is not as good as it used to be. It seems the attitudes are different. Verizon has a more take it or leave it we can replace you kind of feel to heir service. Cingular has an Avis we try harder feel. Really . Its all very evident when you have both services.

Verizon CS slipping? Sorry, can't say thats been my experience at all. They also always come in near the top in the CS surveys (while Cingy ranks middle or near the bottom), so they seem to be doing something right.
For myself, I haven't had to use Verizon CS much at all, but when I have they've been unfailingly polite, knowledgeable, and helpful. I can't really think of a large companies' CS who've I had to deal with recently who's been as good.
By contrast, I've certainly had my share of CS nightmares elsewhere. My SBC landline service (back when I still had one) would be a case in point. Got five minutes?
This was awhile back, so my memory is not perfect, but basically I wanted to bring a new line to the house (new roommate movi...

You know, I have had Verizon and Cingular and everyone who says Verizon has Worse customer service or that Cingular Has better coverage. Well there is one number that you should look at. Its the Churn rate. Cingular is a Point higher than Verizon in Churn rate. Now you say so what its only a point. consider that Cingular has 51 million Cust and Verizon Has 47 million and then think of how many people that is Leaving cingular compared to Verizon. There is a reason Verizon Has the lowest Churn rate in the industry and its not just the coverage.
As a friend of mine who worked for Verizon used to say: "Verizon is not usually alot of peoples first Wireless Carrier, But it tends to be there last."
