Alltel Rolls Out New Plans

Aksarben

Alltel rolled out some pretty competitive new plans today:

$75 gets you:

Two phone lines
1000 shared anytime minutes
Unlimited N&W
Unlimited Mobile to Mobile
7:00 PM Nights on the first two lines

You can add three more lines at $9.99 but their Nights start at 9:00 PM.

VZW needs to re-examine their current plans and drop the price $10. That would make the 700 minute plan $59.99, and the 1400 minute plan $79.99. They also are going to have to look at the earlier night hours too.

Sure. Let's price compete with someone that has alot less of the home (non extended) network area.

Verizon Wireless is already less then Cingular now. (By the plans I see online) They are less then Nextel with better coverage. They are less then Sprint with better coverage.

What's the problem here? The public wants everything for free...

Example, why not give 1000 minutes on a 39.99 plan like T-Mobile? Why would Verizon Wireless have to? That is like Toyota saying they had better start dropping prices on their Camry because KIA has a similar sized car for less so Toyota had better match price...

Or better yet. Why do you think the Toyota Camry and Lexus ES300 are priced different?

"With the acquisition of Western Wireless Alltel became the nation’s largest wireless owned and operated network based on square miles. What does this mean to the Customer? It means that Alltel’s network [owned and operated] covers more square miles than that of any other carrier."

There is a whole lot of space in states like Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas... Where Alltel now owns spectrum and rights. There is also alot of something else there too, NO CUSTOMERS.

Just because you own area doesn't mean you have enough pricing power to dictate to a top notch carrier how to price.

We (Cingular) don't price match Western Wireless here in Texas. Why? Because they have no coverage in any major markets.

These plans are not for other carriers to price match, you do not know the real reason they came out with this plan. Also do not jump on me, the original poster asked if verizon would price match not me....FREAKIN' idiots these days. Do not know who to properly address their issues with....

I think I am about to have a "BF"

Just looked like you were trying to justify their "national" status. You comment at face value looked like it was backing up the need for Verizon and others to lower their rates to match.

If that was not your intentions then no worries man.

its ok, Alltel did it last year I will be honest with you but no one took the bait. They offered a 39.99 rate plan with 1000 mins with free nights and weekends and free mobile to mobile.

You do know that is a National plan.

Also we have another national promo which is

49.99 1000 mins w/o nights and weekends and m2m.

Pay $7 and get nights and weekends added which will start at 7. You can also share the mins.

Does the Alltel plan let you use your night and weekend minutes and M2M minutes everywhere, or do they limit you those just on Alltels network?

Also they offer Mobile to home or what they refer to as Most Often Called (MOC) number. Which you can add any wireless or landline number to your account that is not an alltel number that is in your area as a mobile to mobile number. Like I have a friend who has nextel which they have free incoming. I add their number as a MOC number since I call them alot and now its free for them since they have FI and its free for me since I have MOC 🙂

well, sounds like alltel has a good plan, if it is nationwide, and unlimited promos work everywhere, even on roaming towers. Now, do they have a 50% rule? that would be the a bad drawback.

If alltel was in my area, and with that plan, I would be in there looking things over. I know where I use their towers with verizon, they are just fine for service. Actually, Cellular one is about the only carrier I would never consider, their service is horrible.

Ok, I read your post---hmmmmmmmm, Alltel came out with a new plan that has 1000 mins for two lines for 75.00, Verizon has two lines for 89.99, ok, Theirs has nights that start at 7, Verizon starts at 9. Hmm, you failed to mention that you have to pay 7.00 extra to get those earlier night time mins, so that now makes that plan 82.00 if you only have to pay the 7.00 for both lines instead of each. If each it would be 89.00...I just came off the Alltel website and this is where I came up with the information--So let's see what is the better bargain---1000 mins for 75.00 plus 7.00 for getting those earlier night time minutes==82.00 or 89.00.. Or Verizon where you get 1400 mins. for 89.99...You do the math, I think I will go with Verizon, get 4...

Just checked, as yes it is still there...Listed under extra add on's---Extended Night and weekend mins==7.00...so unless I am looking at the wrong Alltel site?? Or do you have another site I should look at? ☹️

no no no, yes we do charge 7 for free nights and weekends at 7 but the original poster is talking about a promo family plan where nights and weekends at 7 is included in that plan for free. This is how it goes

For $75 dollars, its a family plan that covers both phones, you get 1000 a/t mins, free m2m, its a national plan with free nights and weekends at 7pm for lines 1 and 2. Now for lines 3,4 and 5 your nights and weekends start at nine but for 7 dollars you can have those mins start at 7. Thats the plan we ar etalking about. I hope you understand now

im guessing you are an Alltel rep of some form, correct? if so, nice way to treat a customer who could possibly switch to your service.

if not, i guess you can be as mean as your "not hugged enough" self would like.

Verizon doesn't need to modify it's offerings. We have the best network and provide the best value. We don't need to offer nights at 7pm to attract customers to our network. It doesn't matter how many minutes another company gives you, but can you really use ALL those minutes everywheres? NO. With Verizon Wireless, we work around the clock to make sure that our network is the best, and remains the best. During every storm, hurricane, tornado and national disaster, we have been there for our customers to make sure that their phones work. What more can you want from a company? You get what you pay for, that's why some people buy a Mercedes over a Kia. You get what you pay for. bottomline.

I went to Alltel's website and I found a couple different things that didnt match up with what was written here. I know some of this is repetitive...but I am going to paste what it says...

Plan Details:

-Mobile-to-Mobile Minutes apply to calls between Alltel wireless customers that begin & end in your plan's calling area.
-Call forwarding, 411 & voice mail calls excluded.
-Nights are Mon-Thurs 9:00pm-5:59am. Weekends are Fri 9:00pm-Mon 5:59am.

Extended Night Minutes:

-Extended night minutes begin at 7 p.m. and end at 5:59 a.m.
-Available to new customers and existing customers on select plans $39.99 and higher.
-Any secondary line is eligible but requires an additional $7/month fee.

Well Alltel Does have local plans that require you to be in the local calling area. Also the local calling area on national freedom is similiear to the old America's Choice. Of course it does not work work when you are roaming on Ma and Pa cellular in BFE. With the National Freedom you get coverage where with the new VZW America's choice you just do not get a signal in what used to be roaming. Also the National Freedom is very close to the America's choice esp. considering Alltel and VZW are huge roaming partners and with Sprint Also . They have many of the same roaming agreements so the coverage areas are not all that much different. So yes you do have to be in your home calling area but on National Freedom that is stilll a nice chunk of ho...

Me too I am confused but hey it is a great plan. Also to the poster who brought up why it matters and why VZW would do something like this. You are probably right Alltel and VZW only compete in like 5% of markets or so really they are not competing for customers in markets so VZW would probably not match match alltel. I guess the original posters point and also my point is it is really a good national plan expecially with the free 7pm nights!!!VZW does have a great network but the way things work out between betweeen Alltel and VZW it allows both companies to have an expanded great network. Alltel has a good network where it covers and same for VZW and that is why I like there roaming agreeements so much!
