Number portability question

If I purchase a phone and service plan from Amazon, instead of porting my number over at the time of purchase, can I do it, say, 10 days later? Basically, I want to use to 15 day period as a time to test the phone and signal strenght in my area. If I hate it, I'll just cancel it and keep my existing plan with Sprint.

Anyone know if I can do this or does it have to be at the time of purchase?

you can port anytime you want, but with Amazon, the 15 day period starts the day you buy the phone. So, unless pay more for overnight shipping, you are losing out on your 15 days.

Thanks for the heads up on the 15 day. I was just about to ask that. I saw the number portability page on Amazon and I now realize I get a new number first, then port my old one. The question that I have is that I have to activate the phone when I receive it. The 15 day period doesn't start then? (That is when I thought it would have started.)

Thanks for the REALLY quick reply.

My sister bought a cell phone through amazon, and the service started ... actually the day after she placed the order. The phone was purchased on a Wednesday and the phone arrived on Monday. Not bad, but if you think about it, she lost 3-4 days. It didn't matter to her, though. I've also read in customer reviews in amazon that people were frustrated that the phones were activated so soon, and they complained that they shouldn't have paid for service when they didn't have the phone yet.

Hope that clears things up.

It does! Hey, do you anything about the other post I put up here about Amazon?

Just curious if you have any experience with this? Amazon has a great deal on the Moto 815. I want bluetooth and Mac syncing....then I will be in much better shape than I am with stupid Sprint.

Thanks

Brian

I know a little bit... First of all, with the experience that my sister is going thru with Amazon rebates, I found out that it will take about 6 months to get it, as well as a complicated process (they want the second bill from the provider with proof that you paid your first bill on time) as well as the COPY of the barcode because I believe Motorola has a rebate as well, and they want to original...Read the fine print, I don't remember all of this too well. Bluetooth on verizon phones have file transfer disabled, so if that was your plan, then you might want to reconsider. (Probably contacts and appointment syncing is still ok) Another disadvantage, I guess, if you buy from Amazon, is the return policy. You have to send it back to them,...

Thanks for the info. As much as I would like to support a local store, I can't pass up the HUGE savings on the e815! $200 rebate. That is four days of daycare for my 15 month old daughter!
