WOW Today must be the day...

Me. "Have you ever had cellular service before?"

Customer. "yes, with Verizon, but I cancelled them because the bills were too high."

Me, "Were you going over your plan minutes?"

Customer, "Maybe, I dunno. But I cancelled them, now I want to look at Nextel." (I am a sales agent for both)

Me, "How many minutes do you think you will need?"

Customer, "Oh, not that many. I rarely used my Verizon phone. Maybe like 200 minutes."

I ran the credit application and he came back a deposit.

Customer, "Oh. Well, what would Verizon offer me?"

Me, "Since you do not have an account now, you would need to do a credit application with them too."

Ran credit app, came back call 1-800-no pay for collection account.

Customer, ...

I'm surprised this is the first time it's ever happened to you. My store is in a low income area, and we have declined credit cards and checks come up all the time. Luckily we use Telecheck for automatic check verification, so we don't have to worry about anyone bouncing a check.

Don't you guys offer InPulse or Easy Pay for those type of customers?

Sure. But you missed the point of what was said. He wanted to pay with a check knowing he didn't have money in the account and EVEN ADMITTED to that fact. I wouldn't want to sell anything to someone like that. Not worth the future aggrevation.

Bounced checks are one thing. I am talking about someone that openly says they know they don't have enough funds to cover but still wonders why I won't take the check!
