Why and when you should have BOTH Cingular and Verizon Service

I have to repost this in it's own thread because there seems to be a constant fight between both users and employees. I have both and here is why you might consider that as well.

There is a great economic reason to get two phones along with MANY other reasons.

1. Instead of paying one carrier $100 and suffering with only their feature set and coverage You can pay 2 $50 each and have the BENIFIT of BOTH carriers and feature sets! No brainier there. Or split $200 etc.

2. You now have 2 numbers like most people have anyway, Except both are with you all the time.

3. Where one phone does not work usually ALWAYS the other will. Better coverage for the SAME outlay.

4. Redundancy. If you lose one phone you can forward the number to ...

Fantastic sales pitch! I have my consumer line with Verizon and my dealer line with T Mobile. It worked out great last month when my brother-in-law used up all the minutes (again) and I could just use my T Mobile when calling out-of-network on-peak.

No...

$40 (450) + $40 (450) = $80 (900)

Both carriers offer $60 (900) plans (pay $20 less for the same amount of minutes) or $80 (1350) plans (pay the same amount for 450 minutes more).

Phones: Yah, it'd be cool to have 2 phones, but you'd probably want the coolest phones, so now you're purchasing and spending money on 2 phones, not just one. While VZW has BT phones that only support certain profiles, those can easily be gotten around... I know this because my brother has OBEX on his E815 enabled.

Lost phone: Save that $20/month and pay $5 for insurance... problem solved.

Data plans: Why pay to use text, pix, internet, etc. on 2 different phones... get data plans on ONE phone that cover enough. Splitting up your data is bad to...

I have a Verizon $39.99 plan that expired in 1/30/05 which now I am out of contract, so I now I'm monthly. I also have and use t-Mobile prepayed $100 and you get 1000 minutes which I use for my anytime minutes which is good for the whole year. And I use an old ATTWS 5165 phone which is TDMA/Analog which is also prepaid with Cingular. The TDMA is graet when I'm out in the country/fields.
I travel alot here in Florida and by far the Verizon still has the greatest coverage. I once tried Cingular"s Gsm phone and it was pretty bad here.
So far this is a great set up I've used, and no matter where I am I can make calls.

Hmm... now THAT works. A regular contract plus a prepay that has low monthly minimums, as T-Mobile does when you buy the $100 card (if you do, the minutes don't expire for a year, so it works out to around $8 month).

Or you could go the Virgin/Sprint route, which has about the same minimums. Either would be an inexpensive way to go if you must have a second phone/carrier.
