Could someone explain to me why cdma still uses the extending ant.? but not just cdma, because iden uses it too? Does it have advantages? If so, why doesn't gsm use them?
Holy cross posting, Batman.....I will post the same response I put in the Cingular forum:
It all started when the FCC came out with the radiation warnings about cell phones in the late 90's/early 2000's. They stated that phones with stub/internal antennas provided the body with more radiation than phones with extendable antennas.
When that happened, Verizon was pointed out as a great carrier for not having any phones with stub antennas, so they used it as an advertisement for a while and management has never gotten of...

That was very informational. Thank you. Will you please convince all the rednecks that live in the woods around our town that they don't need a pull out antenna and a tri-mode phone to get the best reception?
I would, but I don't live in the woods....I actually live in a major city, so we all understand that already.
an a670 with a pull up and an lg vx 4500
i dont live a rural area or anything like that, i notice with the vx4500(which has a stub) gets less bars in some places, and in some places more. my a670 (pull up) has service everywhere it is very rare for it to go out of service, the vx has gone out of service various times while my a670 has been in service with 2 our of 4 bars, with the antenna up. personally i think they are more dependible because they keep a constant signal, while the stubs fluctuate betwwen high and low.
