Hey all,
I am curious as to how you get to spend your advertising dollars. Do you get to put it where you want? and how you want? DO you have go through a co-op to get the ad approved and they decide where to put the ad?
I work for a larger indirect company (17 stores) and we have to run everything through a co-op to get our ads approved. We have very little say as to what it says and where we can run it. Our marketing person never calls to tell us where the radio is running and if there is a print ad that runs in the newspaper where the home office located. Very tough for us. Then we have the National Verizon ads that run on tv and we don't offer the same promos that corporate does. Very Frustrating!!
Help? 😕 😡

I'm an Indirect owner and I can pretty much do what I want, but it all has to be approved. Newspaper, TV, Radio, whatever all have to get approval. There are some very specific things such as wording that are required. It's not a huge deal but there are lots of guidelines. You have to get pre-approval on most things and then file a claim for reimbursement.

Any major company will want to have a say in how and where their company will be advertised. Sometimes this can be extremely frustrating, but imagine a few hundred lawyers crawling up your behind because you infringed on a few copyrights. Not a lot of fun.

How long does the process take to get the ad that you created through the process? I know we have had trouble with the co-op dragging their feet and we want to get the ad out right away. Have you ever had the ad held up because of a promo that Corporate is going to run and they don't want you beating them to it?
...
Well you obviously can't advertise something before it's been released. My ads are usually approved within a day. I run a newpaper ad weekly. If I submit it to COOP on Tuesday I usually have approval on Wednesday. I use the utility on the COOP website to create the ad. No matter what I submit it usually only takes maybe 3 days at the most for approval.

Thanks for the info. Where is the nearest corporate store to you? We are 120 miles away and it really seems like we no control what so ever on advertising. The co-op really beats us up for whatever reason. I haven't gone through the process myself but the agency that our office uses seems to be scared of Verizon and don't want to push it. I believe the agency is the one that has more say so as to what and where the ads look like and where they go which is wrong because its our money and we should be able to spend where we want. Do you own one store or multiple ones? If you only own one then if you did have a second store how would you handle their advertising? As a group and use blanket advertising? And be in total control and not let your s...

I only have one store. I'm not sure what I'd do if I had multiple stores.
As for the COOP... ACB Coop is the company we go through. They are the company Verizon hired and we HAVE to send everything through them. Is that how you do it? What kind of things do they beat you up over?

I am not totally sure. I am so far removed from the process. I guess what I am wanting is more control over the ads and where they go. We are running a free headset promo and the ads are running on 3 stations. 2 of those 3 are not heavily listened to. Its in my market but our marketing person lives 120 miles away and does not know what is best for my market. I have talked with them regarding this and have got no answer. I guess the question I want to ask is if you had another store in a totally different market space (another town) would you run the ads without input from your management at the other store?
...
That's a hard question. I would think I would probably want some type of input. I wouldn't have another store that far away though. The nearest retail store is about 25 miles or so away. We have several of them within 50 miles.
...
I, as a store manager, do not have any input whatsoever as to what and where the ads are or go. It sucks. I have tried to give my input and its washed under the rug and forgotten. I guess I keep banging my drum to get something.
...
Dont know about you but it takes me about 2-3 months AT LEAST to get reimbursed through ACB/ Co-Op, however I do like it now how we can order stuff directly from Palmer and it gets deducted automatically from funds instead of having to submit the receipt.
...
My refunds are usually within a month. On monthly submissions I usually have my money back before the next claim.

I think it works both ways.We can actually sell the 276 and 6100 and a few other phones at lower prices then corp stores. However we can not match the prices on the Vcast phones, but we can give you a free car charger and case (aftermarket free) sometimes that makes up the price.
