When did the 710 come out? I am just wondering if those people who originally bought that were about done with their agreement anyway. didn't it come out over a year ago?

yeah, like a year ago. But, I think Verizon does 2 year agreements so they might have 1 year left. But, if they take the drop contract route that Verizon is offering then hey, thats a plus for the customer.

The assertion by the PhoneScoop writer that "users who are satisfied with their handset can opt out of the class" reflects a misunderstanding of how class action settlements work.

If you are satisfied with the v710, you don't need to do anything. If you want to participate in the settlement, you have to file a claim form by the due date.

If you think you got ripped off the v710, and you don't want to be part of the settlement, you can opt out of the class and file your own lawsuit against Verizon Wireless.

If you don't file a claim form by the due date, you don't get anything out of the settlement. If you don't opt out by the due date, then you are considered a member of the class, and you cannot file your own lawsuit.

Does anyone know why the limit for phones purchased prior to Jan 31, 2005? We purchased ours this summer with intent to use Bluetooth technology. No knowledge of lawsuit and Verizon obviously didn't mention it. Does this mean that phones purchased AFTER that date DO have Bluetooth technology ENABLED? We purchased an after-market car kit and had problems with it; in process of getting it replaced. Wondering if it was just that kit or the phone? Any info is appreciated. R Smith

What people were complaining about is the fact that they can't send files over Bluetooth (it is known as OBEX, or object exchange). The Motorola v710 still supports the profiles for Headsets, Handsfree (car kits), and DUN (dial-up networking); so your car kit should be functioning with it. If it still does not, you might want to go to your local store and see if the phn will pair with bluetooth headsets to test if the bluetooth is functioning. If it is, you also might want to try dialing *228 to update your firmware.

Because after Jan 31, 2005 they started listing it on their website as certain profiles were disabled.

another topic that we beaten to death on these forums.

this class action shouldn't have gone through because the day that the 710 launched, it clearly disclosed on our website that OBEX or file transfer IS NOT AVAILABLE through bluetooth.

I guess this class action went through for all of our illiterate "i'll just buy it and hope it works" kind of customers.

No, it was not stated from the day it launched. Several were released advertising OBEX on the box! Also, when customers are told "It was a mistake that it launched without it and there is an upgrade coming that will enable it" by technicians, sales people, customer care, etc then it is not really the customers fault that VZW lied to them over and over.

I personally could live witho...
