VZW is not willing to improve their reception

Hello, I live in Palos verdes, California and our area has really bad service with all the carriers except sprint. Sprint isn't reliable all the time but sprint at least guarantees that i will have serive in major roads. Verizon has sooo many dead spots in this area i get partial service in my house. I have called the cs about any new towers or plans in this area and they said they are aware of the problem and will take 2 years to actually build one tower. isnt that just ridiculous? if i go on to our cities website i see sprint's proposal for a new tower trying to be approved but i dont see verizon for months.What can i do in this situation? anyone? I remeber Tmobile offers extra minutes or discount on the bill and cingular

There is a ton of government red tape to put up a tower, both local government and FCC for permits and regulations and lots of fun stuff. The main reason they reject your request is they don't know how to program a non verizon phone. They also cannot program the phone to use verizon towers. Almost all CDMA carriers have a policy not to activate someone else's phones (even though some dealers will do it. Especialy if they offer most than one provider)

There really isn't much you can do about reception. Unfortunately all companies can't be everywhere. It does cost a lot of money to add service to new areas. This is something that isn't done very quickly and Verizon has lists years long with plans of where to go.

Coverage isn't the only thing that is considered. They also have capacity. In recent years more money has had to be spent on capacity improvements rather then coverage. Capacity is the numbers of calls a cell site can take. As more and more people sign up and start using the service, more and more capacity is needed. The same dollars go for both. Verizon has to keep what they already have running smoothly before they can think about expanding. Both are being done, but ...
