If someone does an equipment change, this doesn't include manufacturer defects or insurance replacement, does Verizon charge a fee to change out the equipment?

Do you mean activate a phone on your existing line, like say one you got on ebay? If that's what you mean, then no. You can even do this online at www.verizonwireless.com.

If you purchase the phone directly from Verizon, they will activate it free of charge. However, if you just want to switch ESN's from one phone to another that you already have (or just bought from somewhere other than VZW) they will charge you $15.00 to change it. Or you can do it yourself on the vzw website, and that is free.

If you don't want to pay $15, go to a Verizon Agent store (Indirect sales). As long as the phone is (1) CDMA and (2) has the GPS chip needed for E911 you shouldn't be charged for changing ESN. It takes about two minutes without any problems.

I don't know what market you are in, but in my market there is a $15.00 charge for an ESN change, whether the handlet is CDMA and has the GPS chip or not.

It can be a handset that you previously had on your account and they will still charge you $15.00. There are only 2 ways to avoid that charge:

1. Buy a new handset from VZW
2. Do the ESN change yourself on my account at VZW's website.

The phone can be flashed with the Verizon software and added to the account via ESN change. I am not sure why there is a charge for that. We don't charge anything even if we need to call it in.

South area charges $15. You can also change your equipment for free from My account on verizons website.

$15 processing fee does apply when you buy equipment from VZW, unless you purchase at full retail, or under the new every two program. Early upgrades definitely do not qualify for the waiver of the fee. Also ONEBILL customer's are not billed the $15 processing fee due to not being able to access VZW.com. You can change online unless the phones are active on an account, or require special feature codes such as any PDA or vcast phone which require certain feature codes which cannot be added on then site! 😁
