3rd Quarter Results: Predictions for All Major Carriers...

Here are Merrill Lynch's latest forecasts for net customer adds for the soon-to-be-reported 3rd Quarter:

National Cariers

* Verizon Wireless: 1.95 million customers net added

* Sprint-Nextel: 1.3 million

* Cingular: 900k

* T-Mobile: 800k

Regionals:

* Alltel (CDMA): 117k customers added (net)

* U.S. Cellular (CDMA): 110k

* Suncom (GSM): -5k (net customers lost)

* Cincinnati Bell (GSM): -3k (net customer loss)

Anyone think those numbers will be far off? I myself have a hard time believeing VZW will more than DOUBLE Cingy in net adds, but they will probably come close. Should be interesting when everyone reports over the next couple of weeks. 🙂

looks pretty good, with the exception of sextel, I think they will only do around 800=900k

Yeah, that might be closer to the truth, since, as RUFF poined out, the MVNO adds don't count.

Sprint-Nextel proper, therefore, is only predicted to be adding 800k customers then.

Yep. Especially since some Cingy folk tend to look down on T-Mobile. "WE'RE the real GSM carrier" or somesuch like that. 😕

But they'd probably never hear the end of it from the T-M folks if T-Mobo beat them in adds.

They sure won't hear the end of it from you.

You could have Cricket, Jake, and you'd still take any opportunity to take a cheap shot at Cingular.

Sorry you feel that way. Have anything to say that's on-topic? 🙂

I'm sorry you feel that way. Was that 'on topic'? Now, you don't have Tmobile OR Cingular so why the comment?

Back to the 'topic'. I guess you had to reword your flame post that was erased. It was the same topic, but you let your true feelings show and it got erased.

Anyway....
Here's some predictions.

Verizon 1.5-1.6 million adds
Cingular- 1 million
Sprint- 1 million
Tmobile- 750k
betterthanjake- 1.5 million flame posts
nextel18- 7.5 million flame posts
Al_Swearengen- will continue to flick your nose

Yeah no problem, jake. I see that it's not all that hard for you to make non-flaming(sorta) posts either. 😉

That projected 1.3 million for Sprint-Nextel includes an estimated 500,000 wholesale customers attained via companies like Virgin Mobile. Those customers will not be included as Sptint-Nextel's own, giving Sprint-Nextel about 800,000 new subs.

The MVNO numbers don't count?!? 😲

I'm sure nextel18 will argue that one.

They don't. Their financial reports are entirely seperate from that of Sprint and Nextel. Nextel18 doesn't and won't argue against the fact that MVNO numbers aren't included in Sprint-Nextel's numbers, because they aren't. He will argue that MVNO numbers should be included in Sprint Nextel's numbers because any customers the MVNOs attain is money in Sprint-Nextel's pocket.

Entirely different situations.

Yep, I think you've called that one right on the button, Ruff. 'cept for the part where Nexty'll present two different sets of numbers when discussing the 3Q results, the official ones and the 'what it should be' numbers. 🙂

Ah well, at least he's into it.
