Qualcomm screwed you guys

That company unleashes HSDPA for W-CDMA but nothing for CDMA2000 based operaters to use to compete.

Verizon can keep the advantage up for the next few years based on coverage but eventually, something will have to be done about technology limitations.

I think it's time for Verizon to play hardball with Qualcomm.

Anyone know anything about how Verizon will answer HSDPA when it becomes a serious threat in the future??

Uh... I don't think Verizon is too worried about HSPDA right now. Especially since its all Cingy can do to get a mixed UMTS/HSPDA that is much slower than Verizon's EVDO into 15 cities (as of Nov 1, actually). Meanwhile, EVDO is in 84 cities.

Sure, you can say that Cingy's 3G network will be all HSPDA, and that it'll get faster, and that its lower latency then EVDO.. but Verizon is way ahead in the build-out of their 3G network, and EVDO Rev A should take care of any latency issues.

I doubt VZW feels 'screwed' by Qualcomm at all. The competing 3G technologies will continue to leapfrog one another, while VZW remains about a year ahead of the competition in its 3G network build-out. That's actually a pretty sweet set-up for them.

Hmmm. You'll be surprised how fast Cingular rolls out 3G. Your jaws will drop!
We hope to catch up with VZW by the end of 2006 (on 3G)
Just wait until you see some of the phones that we'll be...

Well, you guys better get on it and do something. By all indications, you're about to get murdered in the 3rd quarter results, so its time for Big Orange to step it up.

Oh they already have.
They are gearing up to build the best network ever. We've got 15 cities to start and you want to compare against your 84 existing markets? Start bragging when you have it in all markets because EDGE is offered in all markets currently. Cingular will be a complete 100% hsdpa network by the end of 2006. This means that Cingular will have the largest 3G network with the highest speeds available, better reliability and better capacity. At the exact same time, Verizon will be in the middle of...

Cingy isnt going to do anything unless they get people to come to them and as of right now and directly ahead im not seeing much... Plans don't cost money... However actually following through with it does. I will wait and see what they actually put on the market instead of basing anything off of what they intend to do.

I dunno Al. I think I heard some of these same promises when the merger happened, and look at what happened... Verizon kicked your butt anyway.

Btw, why should VZW worry about EDGE? It isn't high-speed... even Cingy claims only 70-135 kbps for it.

Anyways, all I can say is, I hope that Cingy DOES finally 'bring it'. Because if Verizon keeps blowing them out of the water quarter after quarter, who's gonna keep VZW prices low for moi? Sprint-Nextel? Probably not... they're just now entering their own slew of network integration problems. T-Mobile? Nope. They go for the low-cost, not-so-much coverage niche.

I don't mind you constantly promising that Cingular is going to do better, Al. But I do have a problem with Cingy promising and p...
