i recently moved to north riverdale ny. this is an appartment complex. i have a sansung 950, my fiance has an lg 6100 and my friend has a cingulas lg 1400 gsm phone. my fiance and i get poor service with verizon. droped calls, no service to 2 bars at most. my friends cingular worked great.
when i use my verizon phone 1 block away, it works great. i opened a ticket and veron said there were no issues in my area. i was told that i have a tower about .5 miles from my address. can anything be done to get better reception?

thanks

when they said there were no issues? did they say they were going to look into it?

if you have a tower half a mile form you then you should have no problem getting service..

i would bring your phone into a service center and keep doing those tickers.

i have 2 phones (samsung 950 and lg 6100) both have the latest firmware and prl. its not a phone issue.
the tech person read the ticket and said the cell tower itself worked well. they tech didn't go directly to my building address because the area (trees, building shape, ...) can affect reception. they just checked the cell tower. he also said that since the issue was just around my appartment complex, then it must be the area i live in. i get good service 1 block away.
i agreed with everything he said accept with the fact that my friends cingular phone worked great in my appartment. with the verizon tower only .5 miles away, why would i get such poor service???

thanks

how do you know it isnt a phone issue? you realize that the phone transmits data back and forth from the tower. if the tower is transmitting but the phone isnt receiving then obviously it is a phone issue.. if the tower isnt sending nor receiving then it is a tower issue.

if you are .5 mile away from the tower, usually the other stuff that you have mentioned wouldnt really impact it that much becuase you are well within the radius of the tower's transmittion.

not sure why cingular works and yours doesnt..

out of curiosity what floor are you on?

i don't think its a phone issue because i have tried 5 different verizon phones and they all work identicaly. i just spoke with my fiance using our verizon cell phone and it was like a lind line call. she was several block from our appartment. verizon is correct about the fact that an area will effect service. i just don't understand why cingular would be so much better then verizon when the verizon tower is .5 miles away from me.

i'm on the 4th floor but i get poor service in the appartment, 1st floor near the mailboxes, and the drive in area for the appartment complex.

actually verizon can say whatever they want, but if you are within the radius of the tower's transmission then it wouldnt really be affected by foilage trees and other things. yes, they are right that it could affect it but not heavily to make one have no service..

what phones have you tried?

in that case, i would suggest other phones that arent that brand or perhaps just go to cingular where you know that there is service..

that is quite interesting though.

i have tried lg 6100 (3 phones), lg 7000, lg 3300, lg 4400, samsung 950, verizon CDM 8615

all had the same poor reception. the samsung 950 seems to get a little better reception then the lg 6100.

if i just used the phone in that building then i would go with a land line or cingular. the prob is that verizon works better in the majority of places when compared to cingular so i'll just have to live with poor service in my appartment comples ☹️

then stay away from the LG's and the samsung phone...

try another brand..

that is very strange for phones to be having problems in an area where you are supposed to get service..

you could always get cingular just for your apt? (such as prepaid or what not. a limited plan) and have verizon for everything else..

dont know what to say becuase it is very uncommon for that to happen..
