I know that verizon 99% of the time cripples the bluetooth of phones, but do all the other carriers give full bt to their phones?

-cingular?
-tmobile?

whats the deal!

I know that the rockr will not allow you to transfer files through bluetooth to set as ringers so they kinda of lock some folders on the phone so bluetooth cannot access them, a lot like the nokia 6256i we are starting to carry. Not to sure about tmobile becasue i don't even consider them a competitor in my area.

yeah an example is the 815 moto, why would vzw let us use BT to connect to EVDO network for free that wouldn't make any sense

I am very disappointed with verizon's policies on bt. I have their service for now but will not buy a premium phone and plan to switch when cingular expands to my area. I spend a ton of money each month with three phones and mucho minutes. I do not like spending hundreds of dollars for a deliberately broken product. Too bad there is no regulatory agency fighting for the consumer. This is what happens when you have no real government oversight and 'market forces'. It might actually benefit verizon customers to have a rejuvenated sprint and t-mobile. Hopefully, their policies will be more consumer friendly.

You're retarted. Government regulation is not needed here. It's a free market with plenty of competition. If you don't like the crippled BT, don't buy a BT phone from VZW. Simple as that. Bye.

Thats a great point! BT is a privilege, not a right...if you dont like VZW's policy then go to another carrier!

Not that I have much against Verizon (I have them as a secondary carrier to my Sprint), but I think you've been drinking too much of Verizon's kool-aid if that's how you honestly feel.

If bluetooth was such a privelage, then how come just about every other carrier can provide uncrippled bluetooth? A previlege, by definition, is a special advantage that is not enjoyed by all. Funny, that's exactly the opposite in this case. People with uncrippled phones are privileged compared to those with a Verizon bluetooth phone (except the new Nokia).

Having an excellent network with Verizon is a privilege. Having great customer service is a previlege. Verizon's bluetooth is NOT, by any means, a privilege.

And yes, if you don't like, you can go ...

Thank you very much for your well reasoned answer.
Why do you object to government regulation? Use of the airwaves are for the public good. How is the public good being served with poor service. Because there are only a few large corporations cotrolling the cell phone industry, government regulations are needed.

This is a capitalistic market. That means supply and demand. If the demand is that low for phones without the ability to have BlueTooth fully enabled, then the supply will go down. It may even eventually disappear. But, if the market remains even remotely close to what it has been like.......it won't be a problem because only a small percentage of mobile customers even know what BlueTooth is capable of, let alone use it. I know that my mom could really give a sh*t whether she can wirelessly connect a phone to her computer to transfer ringtones.

If your demand for a BT enabled phone is that high......find someone who will supply you with that phone. Make a stand by not buying anything else. However, please don't think that this is s...

Comcast does not allow for the DV-R feature (tivo-like recorder) to be used on pay-per-view or On-Demand content.

Actually you can DVR pay per view stuff as long as its on one the channels and not On Demand. I know for a fact that I can DVR HotNet which I believe is channel 648, because I have done it before. I also just recently DVR'ed The Longest Yard which was on 623. Both things were on Pay-Per-View but they weren't on On-Demand.

djdelay pretty well summed up the reasons why there is no reason for govt regulation here. I'd like to also add that the United States Federal Govt. is completely inept at EVERYTHING it has ever stepped into to regulate. If the US Govt were regulating the cell phone industry, we'd all be paying over $1 min for airtime on crappy analog phones with no features. If you think I'm exaggerating, talk to an air traffic controller about how well the Federal Govt regulates their systems. That is if he's not busy changing out a spent vacuum tube on his "computer."

Why not stop whining and just hack your phone and unlock whatever BT function you want. You'd figure by now that anyone who knows what BT OBEX is is also the type of person smart enough to type in "E815 Bluetooth Hack" into google, but I guess they just aren't as smart as they wish they were.
