With the Nokia 6256 nobody can record something and put it as a ringtone. Are all Verizon phones like this?

Verizon will do all they can to CRIPPLE their phones! Not everyone wants to use their OVER-PRICED Get It Now service. They're just money-hungry and will penny-pinch their customers every chance they get 👿
I understand that they are a business and are in it for the money just like everyone else, but GIVE US SOME OPTIONS! That's why I got a cable for my phone and load wallpaper and ringtones, and I use my phone as a modem, so I can have options!

I just left Cingular and signed with Verizon. I am used to the full implementation of BT and making my own ring-tones, and switching between phones using a SIM card, and buying phones on Ebay, and many other things I cannot do with a fee from Verizon. However I can make a call that does not get dropped on Veirizon's network.

That said, I got the cheapest phone from Verizon and signed for only a year. Im hoping Cingular will get their crappy network together so I can once again enjoy the flexibility of their phones.
For now though Cingular is crap..........but I'll wait.

Unless of course Verizon loosens up on thier phone stranglehold. The I'll buy the 815 or 8100 or similar. But I see no advantage to buying those phones now if i can't ...

um, you can change phones on your account with no fee, just do it yourself on my account online. You can alao transfer pics and video on the 815 and 8100, just get a memory card. I transfer ringtones through bitpim, the program is free. I also think cingular is starting to follow suite, i thought the rockr had it set to block you from putting ringtones on it?

I dont know about the Roker. I am not looking for an MP3 player, I used a smart phone MPX220 and a Sony T637.

Both show up as a drive on my PC and I can freely access all folders and contents within those folders as well as the Storage card.I miss the SIM card technology already though.

I have read you have to hack Verizon phones doing seem edits and outside Sw to do only some of the same things. The new Nokia I had hoped would be BT enabled fully has the same folder locks. I dont blame Verizon for their businees practices. I'll just enjoy Verizon's great network on a cheap phone until Crapular gets their shyte together in that department.

Yeah riiiiiiiiiiight! 🙄 We don't need to cripple our BT phones because we don't have BREW phones.

"I also think cingular is starting to follow suit"

God I hope not...Unfortunately those of us that require national coverage etc are stuck with the big 4 (Verizon, Cingular/AT&T, Tmobile and Sprint); if they do all follow suit and start crippling their phones like Verizon does we're screwed.

As many and myself have said before I totally get it, it's their business, their product and they can alter it in any damn way they please to make a buck, but I just cannot support ala carte functionality of a freakin cell phone as a good business practice - If I buy a cell phone from a given company that came from the manufacturer with X, Y or Z capabilities, I expect those functions to WORK if I buy the phone. It's too bad Verizon started doing t...

I totally agree. I used to work for Verizon and am still with them because their network is the best I've been on. There's always a way to hack the bluetooth it's just a matter of checking these forums. Good luck in your wireless adventures 🙂

Unfortunately yes...you must use the GIN to get ringtones. I don't know if there is a hack for the Nokia phone yet. It is a way for Verizon Wireless to make money. If you don't like this, then switch to a carrier that has less reliable cellular service. If you are the best, you can charge for extra things. If you aren't, you need to throw things in for free to counteract...

Yet, the new Nokia Bluetooth supposedly allows file transfer. Go figure why Verizon slips that phone out through the indirects and never at the corporate stores.

It's funny because Nokia has all of these commercials talkin about how great their phones are BECAUSE you can record yourself singing a song and then it will be your ringtone, etc, etc.

But then you get the phone through Verizon, and Verizon has crippled it.
