okay, so like everyone wants something for nothing. Normal, human reacton; we have a desire to better ourselves, and sometimes it's projected by a need to acquire the "latest and best-ist" items. So people keep asking, "what is XXX company going to do for me, Why should I have to pay for my Nintend-station 360, it's the games they make their money off off. My cell phone is broken/outdated/ugly I think i should get a new one." Now having worked in telecom for 4 years plus, it occurs to me: What if everyone's wish was granted? What if whatever happened to your handset, service was covered? What if you had unlimited everyting?
The answer: Cable TV.
Everything would be leased, so it wouldn't really you "owning" a handset so much as you renting...

You mean that for $150 a month I could trade in my phone as often as I wanted and never worry about going over my minutes for voice or data. And could I also lease the accessories like chargers and extended memory cards for a couple of bucks a month? and may be get complete insurance on the phone for like another few bucks a month? so for around $160 a month I don't have to wait for a contract to upgrade my phone and I can always have the newest technology. Sign me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure all of those people who use minimal minutes or can't afford expensive plans share your enthusiasm for paying $150 a month........communist. 😉

actually all I want is a smartphone, either windows mobile or symbian, for under $200. Cingular has at least 2 of them. with bluetooth, and I'm ok with it being limited to connecting to a heasdset. I'm really not that difficult, I just have specific wants with a cell phone and wish that Verizon wireless would at least put out a phone, or at least allow a manufacturer to release a phone, that could compete with their competitors phones.

What a thought that is. However, I don't think any wireless service provider would want to take on the liability of "leasing" phones to people. I have seen how people treat their phones. They treat them as if they were one of those disposable cameras you get a the drug store. People don't have respect for their equipment when they own it, let alone if they leased it. It would turn into a phone exchange free for all. An economic nightmare for any company. As for the $150.00 a month unlimited usage, the networks wouldn't be able to accommodate that kind of traffic. Dropped calls and fast busies would be all anyone would hear about. You have to impose some accountability and responsibility on the public, or else they would walk, stampede even a...

that was kinda my point. to statisfy everyone and make what most people think of as an "ideal" mobile service is more-or-less infeesable. This arguement came to once when I worked at Dish, and to confess I was kinda baked when it came to mind the other day.

But wouldn't it be nice... most pipe dreams are.
