Verizon - LG-VX8100

I am posting this message for some guidance. I am currently a Cingular customer for about 1 yr. My contract is up on 12/06 and I am thinking about switching to Verizon. I am interested in the LG VX8100 with all the bells and whistels (VCAST included).

I wanted to see if anyone else that has Verizon has any comments about that particular phone.

Also, is that VCAST service worth the $15 per month? I've always been a Nokia/Samsung guy, but don't know too much about LG and their quality and reception.

Only thing about Verizon I don't like is no Rollover minutes. Also, what's the scoop on CDMA vs. GSM? Is there a clear cut winner???

Any comments would be appreciated.

If you are a new customer, head over to best buy and get the 9800 for 99.00. I think you also get your first month of vcast for free, so you can decide if you like it or not.

The Verizon store also lets you have first mnth of VCAST free.

Thanks for the info. Not too wild about the 9800. Like the flip phone of the 8100 better.

The thing with Cingular now, is on occasion, I hear "echoing" when I am on a call. Echoing of my own voice. It's annoying as hell!!!

Has anyone exp. that with VXW?

I am hesistant about going to VXW because of CDMA vs. GSM. Maybe I'm too caught up on that and it really doesn't matter......

You will find no noticable difference between CDMA and GSM as far as everyday use is concerned. Both give you clear calls if you are in a strong signal area. Data, currently, is much faster with EVDO on Verizon.

As far as the Echo, I have experienced that on both technologies (I currently have both Verizon and Cingular).

I have found the coverage to be very comparable in all areas that I have travelled.

I took an extensive road trip covering 34 states so I feel different. My opinions match up with jdpower, consumer reports and the CEO of cingular. Cingular is not on par with verizon in most areas. Glad you have it good where you are.

The 8100 is a great phone! The e815 has problems with echo, but not the 8100. I have had mine now for 6 months and it is the best phone I've ever owned.

I have had both (8100 and 815) and had problems with echo on both phones. However, the e815 software locks and resets itself multiple times daily. The 8100 is a much more stable phone from a software standpoint. And now that I have an 8100 without the volume bug, I find it hard to believe that there is a better phone out there for Verizon.

Actually I was talking about the two main reviews ' In Depth ' on this site. The lg did not fair as well in the bank vault. The 8100 is a cool phone. I'm not hatin. The fact is lg consistently runs weaker in RF. I have seen so many cases where someone is hatin on Verizon and they have some junk lg 6100 then get a moto and just like that BARS up the a** or at least reception where they had weak or NONE Before.

I agree. My wife has the 8100. It is an awesome phone for alot of features. Sound is great. The only thing my phone has over hers is that I get reception in alot of areas where she doesn't.

I have that lowely V710 (actually the best phone I have ever had, and I won't trade out for the RF reason). The only thing I would want is the better outside screen and the better camera...but I wouldn't trade off signal strength for that, making and receiving calls is the whole purpose for a cell. I would rather have a phone that does that the best and everything else is average...

the 8100 rocks! I have never had any volume issues after the updates and it is the only phone that works good at my house, and yes i have tried the motos. Vcast is free for 30 days so you might as well try it. the video clips are not really worth but the unlimited mobile web and free airtime for all data isn't bad if you use it a lot.

If you're a Nokia guy you can get the Nokia 6256i at best buy for $99 as a new customer; I'd get that over a POS LG any day of the week, plus the Nokia's bluetooth isn't crippled as all the other Verizon phones are.

I've been reading comments about this phone going back toward early November and October.
Seems like this phone had some volume bug issues and other issues. Can someone elaborate on the volume issues?

Also, seems like this phone is better than it was at first when it was initially rolled out.

Before I get this phone, want to make sure there are no bugs. I don't expect a phone to be perfect, but don't need any frustrations of minor things that add up.

Thanks,
