When I get the razr I'm thinkin about getting the insurance along with it..

5 bucks a month so just wondering if the $60 more or less a yr is worth it.

how many of you guys out there have it and have used it?

It seems to me that if you want to be able to replace a phone under the insurance provision with the same model, the insurance is well worth it. If you want the least expensive phone as a replacement, maybe it isn't. Considering what the RAZR is going for, it's probably money very well spent. Only my opinion.

60 dollars a year + 50 dollar deductibale. = 110. Razr is 199 with rebate, so you save 89 dollars, IF you use the insurance.

The way it sounds, the retail price of the RAZR will be around $400. So if you buy your phone with the 2 yr discount, you will probably spend a total of $100-200 after rebate. However, if your phone is stolen, lost, or damaged, you will have to replace it at the retail cost of the phone unless you have insurance. So if you consider $60/year on a 2 yr agreement plus the $50 deductible only equals $170. That's $230 less than what you'd pay at retail to get a new one.

I think it depends upon your situation. For example, worst case scenario, you buy the razr this week, lose it next week. Can you afford to cough up $300 or $400 if that occurs? If not, get the insurance. If so, forget it.

I've been using a cell phone extensively for 15 years and carrying one with me on travel for over 10 years. Knock on wood but I've never lost or had a cell phone stolen. Had I purchased insurance over that period of time, I'd have spent over $600 and that doesn't factor in the time cost of money (interest on that money).

The other thing to consider is what if your lost or stolen phone incident happens one year from now? It is reasonable to believe the cost of the replacement razr at that point would be much l...

? 😕 😡 vzw doesn't profit off insurance the manufactuer of the phone will or the insurance company will. when you pay you $4-5.99 a month vzw gives that to locklin/asurion and the deductable too. and then they pick up the remaining balance themselves. so only time vzw is happy is when you break or loose your phone 45 days before your contract ends and YOU opted for the cheapest phone (free) at the time of purchase, and there are more or a compareable one available at the time. then that's when your $4-5.99 a month pays the value of you phone ☚ī¸ .

you must be an $89.99 or less (FREE!!!! 😲 ) PHONE OWNER.........when your phone conks out after you one year of warranty or you loose it you better hope that you eligable for the merit progr...

I've had a cell phone for 5 years now and they all still work like the day they were new. Touchpoint 2100($125), T68M($300), i500($450), VX7000($190), VX8100($190). None of them have ever been dropped/wet/damaged in any way. Though if you notice, aside from the 2100, all these phones are expensive phones. They were all treated as such and still work. I've never had insurance at any time.

if you still have them that's good. but if you lost them then your s.o.l. unless you have the cash upfront to outrightly buy or ebay a new one.

WHICH MOST DON'T! 😲

then they walk into a store looking for a deal like anyone can really help them out. then get pissed when there is nothing to be done but replace the 8100 the bought for $200.00 with a refubished samsung a650 for $149.99.

My house isn't prone to fire or complete destruction but it still has insurance. Same with my car. I've never filed a claim on either one but I still have them insured. Is home/auto insurance also a waste then?

that is correct, $170 after 2 years, but, do not forget, after 2 years, you are eligible to get a new phone at contract prices, and $170 usually buys a pretty nice phone, and there will be new phones out there that are the new thing, remember insurance only replaces what you have with like or as close to as possible, you will not be able to upgrade models.

Insurance is just that, if you use it in the first few months, you got your moneys worth, if you dont use it, it is not saving you a whole lot, not to mention, the full retail when it first comes out will drop like a rock in a short while.

My advice, only do a 1 year contract, and forget the insurance, that is what I do, and it works out great, and then you get the benifets of havi...

My opinion is that oh everyone elses. if you paid any where under $150 for your phone and you have never lost anything or accidently destroyed it then don't get the insurance.

i had a guy that got a treo november 10 and lost it december 3 and declined insurance 😕 ON A TREO!!!! and is now pissed because he can't get a free replacement from me. so i'd say yes to insurance if i were you. i have it and have used it a few times for malfunctioning phones.

if it helps think of it as a tax that the government has added for no reason. 😎 that's what i tell people it works %40 of the time.

If it won't kill your budget, definately get the insurance. You only have to use it once to make it worth it. Forget the monetary value, the frustration you save is well worth the cost.

I would be more willing to take out insurance if verizon ran it, and what I mean by that, is, if my phone breaks, I lose it, gets stolen, whatever, I goto the verizon store, or call them, and they hand me a replacement, they can deal with the insurance company, and I get my phone replaced right away.

Actually I've had techs take a look at my account and noted that I had the full insurance and just swapped out the phone for me. Once was a Motorola T730 over a year old whith a headset jack that wouldn't work. My wife brought it in and he told her, no problem you have full replacement coverage and gave her a new phone.

Whether the insurance is worth the money depends on how expensive your phone is full retail. Another factor, is how much you have invested in accessories.
For me, it is worth it. I have a single line and have every accessory imaginable. Having used 6000 minutes and over 1500 text messages one month, (crazyiness), you could imangine why I have invested in insurance.

So let me get this straight (I never thought about this until now)

If I buy a phone and I have a 1 year contract, so I pay the 1year contract price..if something happens to the phone, I can't buy another phone, of my choice, at the 1 year contract price? Therefore, I will have to buy phones for retail until that 1year contract is up (because I used it with my initial phone)--?

That's what I'm getting--Correct?

You are correct. That is an industry standard. However, if you are in fear of damaging the phone ask the sales rep at the time of purchase about insurance. It's 4.99 a mo. covers lost, stolen or damaged beeyond repair. there is a $50 deductiable and you can file 2 claims a year. The nokia 2128 full retail cost is 149.99 when you compare that to $50 your saving alot of money. I personally have had ins. on both my lines since 1998 and have never used it, but I always have the latest equipment and once I purchase it at full retail(razor v3 419.99) I can't afford to buy it at that price again. I can however afford $10 a mo. to cover two lines! Hope this helps 😁

yes. that's correct 100% if you have insurance then you only pay $50, if no insurance that's correct you pay the FULL price throughout the year for each time you lose or damage your phone. (Which is not really vzw's responsibility to provide you a phone at contract price anytime you need one).

For that expensive of a phone I would definitelly get insurance.
Here are some pointers about the INSURANCE.

1)You can get NEW or LIKE NEW (refurbs, which carry a 6 month warranty) equipment. EVEN warranty replacements will give you a refurbished phone.
2)You have 60 days to file your claim from date of loss.
3)You WILL receive SAME equipment if available, the insurance WILL NOT upgrade your equipment (no you can't pay extra either). If your equipment is NOT available, you will receive a phone comparable FEATURES, NOT all features can be guaranteed, Insurance won't measure compatibility based on size, weight, color, price.
4) You will have a $50 deductible in EVERY claim you file.
5)YOu have 2 claims within 12...
