Did VZW's PTT flop?
What happened? I haven't seen any new PTT phones lately.....
...
donno. PTT is kinda an antiquated service. most cell phone providers have moble-to-mobile plans, and most phones can use either voice activated dialing or speed dialing. (sprint)Nextel's always going to lead in push to talk service. (sprint)Nextel makes a good business phone, just not a great every-day use phone.

Have you ever used PTT? It sucks. The whole idea sucks. I've yet to talk to someone that likes it. Not only do the phones suck, they are more expensive as are the rate plans. This is completely aside from PTT slowing your communication by 50%.
My father had it for his business with 12 lines. He used it for a month and that was it. Nobody liked it.

PTT for Verizon makes no sense with free M2M. Inorder to use the PTT function on the Verizon models, you need someone on the other end that has the same service. From what I understand, the PTT feature for Verizon is only for Verizon (ie. can't connect to Nextel), so there doesn't seem to be much point in getting the feature. Especially since it costs $10 more than the normal America's Choice plans, you lose unlimited N/W, and unlimited M2M.

You don't lose anything. But it is 10 dollars ON TOP the rate plan charge. You do have the unlimited M2M in case the other party doesn't have PTT. That being said...I haven't sold my first PTT phone for VZW. When I point out that most all the plans have unlimited M2M anyway...the extra cost isn't justified. Plus the set up and connection time is such that it doesn't save any time over a cellular call.

Sorry, you're correct. I was thinking of the North America plans with the whole losing M2M and such, but yeah, the cost just doesn't make any sense.

The benefits of PTT are basically apparent through subscribers of the Nextel service. Almost zero connect time, zero latency, zero, zero, etc. It's easy to click on a name initiate the PTT session and tell Billy Joe where to dump his load of whatever. Or a technician who's being walked through a set-up of something, ie: computer equipment, etc. PTT is the way to go... If it can't compete with Nextel (Sprint) than it's not worth putting out...

In a word, yes. So far the only ptt phones my store has sold in the last 3 months was one small business account porting from Nextel. They seemed to like it.
