LG VX8100 vs. Nokia 6256

Sorry for another one of these, but I REALLY need help with this decision. I need a reliable, dependable phone that can last me 2 years. Last new phone I had was the Moto t720 and regretted that purchase the whole life span (2 yrs of that phone).

Some things I want: bluetooth, mp3 capability, good battery life, camera. I love a small phone- I'm not looking for a PDA. I was initially interested in the Razr, but looking for something with expandable memory. I don't know much about VCast- is this very desirable on a phone? I like all the bells and whistles in a cute little package 🙂 .

So now I've narrowed it down to the LG 8100 and nokia 6256. I'm just trying to figure out the big difference between these phones. I know the LG...

Between the 8100 and the 6256...I'd go with the Nokia. BT is apparently not crippled. V-cast is nice, but not that great and with a fully-enabled BT phone, you'd be able to work a lot better with your PC.

I've got the Nokia 6256, an' i like it a lot. Very good reception an' call clarity, trimode, full bluetooth, lots an' lots of features. Also getting great user reviews. Only real downside is that the speakphone is only so-so, an' the phone is not particularly pretty.

I don' know.. if EVDO an' VCast were important to ya, I'd go wit' the LG. Otherwise, the Nokia is a very good choice.

Can't say fo' 100% certain, 'cus I don' have a 950 or 8100, nor do I got any friends who do. So I can only go by things like HowardForums threads:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=750959& ... »

The camera on the 6256 is basically good fo' a VGA camera (640x480, 0.3 megapixel) an' does take decent shots wit' the Quality set to High. But it can't truly compete wit' most 1.3 megapixel cameras an' up.. it jus' does not have that level of sharpness.

I'd rate the cam on the 6256 'a'ight' (average). The shots it takes won' embarass you, but they won' make you whoop fo' joy either. Does have a f...

If you want full bluetooth get the nokia. The Vcast is cool but definitely not a necessity on the 8100. I have the lg and love it, wouldn't trade it for any other phone. My co worker has the nokia and loves it to. The reception on both are actually quite similar despite what others may say about the lg. I have been in bad service areas for any phone with one bar and it works just fine. I also think if you want an mp3 player the 8100 is great. you can play it from the outside and is loud. The speaker phone is a little louder than the nokia but both sound good. I have yet to hear an mp3 on the nokia but assume it is fine. I would just decide on the few features that differ between these 2 phones which are more important and get that o...

Lucy,

I must admit, I've always been a Nokia guy. But, I just switched over to Verizon from Cingular and have been pretty happy with the move.

As for the LG 8100, I was a little reluctant about getting the phone because it seems a little "bulky". It's actually a nice size phone, not too small and not too big. Just the right size.

As for reception on the 8100, it is fine. Very clear and crisp. I've used VCAST a little bit since I activated my phone two weeks ago. Not sure if I want to keep it. (They are offering a 30 day free trial).

The functionality of the phone works great! Speakerphone is very nice and clear. I can make AND answer calls with the phone clamshell closed!! Real nice feature when you're driving.

I don't...

Let me elaborate. I use a wired headset when driving or on long conference calls. I have the clamshell closed and when I receive a call, just click on the "play" button in the front cover to answer the call.

When I'm making a call, I just click on the "microphone" button to the left side once, and the "Voice Command" menu pops up. Then I verbally say "Call Someone" and it asks me who I want to call and I'll say "Fred". It then dials Fred's number (gives me options of numbers if I have multiple phone numbers in my address book). Pretty cool.

The key is to have the wired headset plugged into the 2.5mm jack.

Sorry for the confusion and not being more detailed.

Ok. That sounds better as you are not using the speakerphone, you are using the headset attachment. Totally different functionality. I did (when I had the 8100, now I have the sammy 970) the same things with my BT headset, but my button on the headset substitutes for the play and microphone buttons.

Ok the 8100 has a better display, better camera, better speakerphone. The 8100's expandable memory is very easy to access on the side of the phone, nokia in all their wisdom stuck it in a very odd spot so if you are swapping cards a lot it gets very annoying. Vcast/evdo yes most people do not use this, however it is expanding as verizon keeps dumping billions into their data network, so with that said their could be some cool stuff down the road you will miss out on if you don't have an evdo headset. I would also suggest it for anone who interested in mobile web at all. Mobile we b is extremely fast on the 8100 because of the evdo. I also play a lot of games on my phone when i am bored. If your into that the vcast games are excellant and of ...

Actually, I think the 6256i has alot more than what you claimed it has RECEPTION!!!! The reception on the nokia is a 1000 x's better than the 8100. I have had both phones! and speak from experience most people using an 8100 will tell you the reception stinks in my opinion Lg dropped the ball with the 8100. I guess I am just one of those people that find it important to be able to make a call rather than take a great picture! The nokia also has a great speakerphone, fm radio, infrared, bt obex, sure the camera is only a vga but it's phone! I have a 6.1mp digital camera to take pictures with! 🙂

Thats to bad that you think the 8100 sucks. Like I said in my earlier post my co worker has the 6256 and I have the 8100. Our reception is very very similar. I have yet to find a place where my 8100 stink as you said. I will say the 8000 is slightly better, but I still get reception in all the places that I always have and in some places I did not before. I think both phones are great. there are a few different things that each phone can do. So just because you think the reception sucks doesn't mean that it does for everybody.

I realize that not everybody will think the reception sucks...I guess I was alittle confused and thought these forms were for sharing thoughts and ideas as well as facts.
Also, I am not the only one that feels the 8100 was a flop.

I agree as well. I'm not going so far as to say the 8100 reception complete blows, but it definately could use some improvement. Nokia on the other hand usually has great reception and I just had a customer come through with a 6256 and was just bragging about reception.

My wife has the 8100 and loves it. No reception problems. Actually improved over her Sammy a670. But my V710 still kicks everyone's arse in terms of reception. Just wish it had more cool stuff like her phone.

there is absolutely no problems with the 8100's reception. Out where i live it is one of the only phones that will work well witout dropping calls. It says i only have 0-1 bars but i have never dropped a call with it or my 8000. When i had my moto it would give me 1-3 bars. You would think that would be better yet it dropped calls constantly and half the time didn't ring when people called? yet it said i had good service. I have had multiple motos, samsung and lg's the 8100 and the 8000 are the only phones that have been solid performers out where i live in the past few years. I had to get rid of my 6000 because it wouldn't hardly work, my wife's lg 6100 also sucked so i gave her my 8000 and started using the 8100. We had also tried moto and...

I also thought these forums were about sharing thoughts but to me it sounded like you were just bashing the 8100 because you personally didn't like it. Which is fine but this person was trying to decide between the 2 phones. Everybody else seemed to have no problem with saying things they thought were good about each phone and you bashed one because you didn't like it. I understand that others don't like it either, I don't care, I like it and many others do to. Its all about personal preference. Let this person decide without just saying one phone sucks.

That's how some people voice their opinions. It may not be extremely helpful, but how they voice their opinion is just as much a personal choice as the opinion itself.
