Okay, so I've had four different chargers now and each one has crapped out after about a month and a half. It's not the phone, because after the first charger stopped working, I swapped phones and it still does it. Every time I bring it in the same people act shocked. Is this typical of Motorolas?
...
Yes that is the worst charger and charging port ever. It will happen on just about every motorola with that charging port. Part of the problem is still the phone in my experiences.

yup, they are pure garbage, thank god moto finally started using a different port in the new models

Not to say that the charging port on the V265 and many of the other Motorolas isn't a bad design...it absolutely is. However, I have been using a V265 for several months on the 2nd of my two services, and I have had absolutely no problem at all. If you don't take the time to press the button down on the cord that connects to the phone, and frankly, a lot of people don't, the housing for the charging port is going to break, causing the charging port to become inoperable. I saw the new connection on the RAZR today for the first time close up, and I hope that is a better solution.

I agree it isn't the best design and should have been redesigned along time ago, but that being said...
I have the Moto V710 and haven't had a problem one. All of the Moto's I have sold, very few have came back with charging issues. But here is the key. I am sure on every sale to point out that when charging the phone, place the phone somewhere it can sit and not be stressing the charger. If charging in the car, DO NOT stretch the cord to your ear. One of two things will happen. Either the pins on the charger will break, or the solder holding the charger to the mainboard will break. When releasing the charger...make sure you do what sngwrtr525 said...press the release button.
Once I have instructed all my customers, they typic...

i've owned nothing but motos. and i love them, won't give them up for anything. well not another phone at least, maybe for the treo 700 when it comes out but that's neither here nor there. but i've never had a problem with them. i have a feeling that its partly to do with how they are taken care of. when i charge my phone its on a flat surface where the cord is straight and not hanging off pulling on it. because i've seen problems with all sorts of chargers breaking and ports going bad. now there is 1 really good thing about the moto port, if it does get dirty or corrodid, it's very easy to clean, just scrape the connectors, cant do that with a lg

Well I only charge my phone in the house (something is busted in the outlet in the car) and it's all night sitting on my end table. No stress what so ever, and I've never tried to pull it out viciously. I'm sure sometimes I'm slightly less conscious of pushing the button in completely but it's pretty ridiculous that something like that would cause me to go through 5 chargers in one year.
At least it's time for an early upgrade!

That is great and some people do just abuse them, but a lot go bad with little or no abuse. I have had plenty come back after just one day, I have also pulled them straight out of the box brand new and they wouldn't charge. The point is they are absolute garbage and you have to baby it, and even then you will be lucky if it lasts two years. What i don't understand is three years ago we rarely had this problem with the original v60 and the v120 series, but for some reason the motos over the past few years have really highlighted this issue, not sure if they switched manufacturing plants or cheaped out on parts or what, but they just don't seem to be made at the same quality standards as other manufacturers or even other motos from years past....

Exactly and its also absolutely ridiculous that you would have to baby your phone and charger to make sure it lasts. I'm not saying I want something that I can just throw around but I always take care of my phones and am careful. My 720 and 730 had these charging problems after a couple of months but luckily I had an extra battery and the desktop charger so I didn't have to ever unplug anything. The funny thing about you saying the parts are cheaper is that our aftermarket car chargers work great, because the end is just a little bit bigger and fits in their tighter.

Hummm. Don't know what to say then. Like I said, I haven't had a problem once out of mine and I have had my V710 for over a year now. I had a T720 before and never a problem. I have never had one bad right out of box either. Also, like I said, I have sold tons of Motos and see less then 1 percent back.
In fact, I see about the same amount of LG's back as I do Motos. But then again, I haven't had a problem at all from my V710 and everyone talks about it like it is crap. In my basement I get two bars and can make calls with my phone. My wife has the 8100 and hers cuts in and out. My son's a670 does the same.
