On the Network: Let's hear from Cingular's CEO...

Since everyone's commentin' on network stuff right now, figured it might be time to hear from someone who's job it is to know what's what on the subject.. Cingular's CEO, Stan Sigman.

Some o' his comments in a recent Business Week interview:

"I know where our network stacks up."

"I don't think it's time for us [Cingular] to go out touting on a national basis that we have the best network until we do have the best network."

"We've said this is about taking us to best-in-class metrics by the end of 2007."

"There's absolutely no reason why we can't have as good a network as Verizon has. If we don't, we failed to execute."

"Now, we're into the heavy lifting of integrating the networks.."

this is something we all know to be true, but you know the cingy fans will still say your wrong and they have a better network. i love it

Well its not so much that they'd be sayin' *I* was wrong, they'd be sayin' their own CEO is wrong. Which, yeah, is a lil' bit hilarious.

I agree 100% with what he says, but never once did he say that Cingular wasn't good. Just not the best...yet.

From the way most Verizon fanatics act, you would think that he said Cingular flat out sucks and should simply go away. You can say you're not the best without putting yourself down. For all we know, he could still think that Cingular has a fantastic netw...

I agree that he did not say come out an' say that Cingular flat sucks. However, its pretty obvious from his comments that he knows that Verizon has the best network, an' that Cingular comes in somewhere below that. Verizon's the benchmark, an' that's where Cingular wants to be.

That said, he ain' takin' the situation lying down. He does have a plan to improve Cingular, an' accordin' to him it'll take another 2 years or so to fully bear fruit. I wish him success, since the better competition will result in Verizon cuttin' some better deals wit' consumers like me. 🙂

New people visit this forum everyday in search of answers. Some folks are not aware of cingulars shortcomings. There is know better place for cingular bashing then in the verizon forum. Just consider it a refresher course for the rest of us. Plus we were attack on our own soil yesterday. It still funny to me 🙂

I agree, he did not say that Cingular sucked. Neither would I. But its pretty obvious from his comments that he regards Verizon as the benchmark.

Your right, we should look at his last statement. 'Cus he says that Cingular an' ATT were two 'good' companies that he wants to make into one 'great' company, 'performing as Verizon is today'.

Which seems ta be sayin' that he considers Verizon to be a 'great' company, or at least a great performer. An' Great > Good.

The problem that most have with some of the comments is that you generalize. You say Cingular always drops calls, that depends on where you live. You say Verizon doesn't drop calls and has better quality, again, it depends on where you live. You say Cingy sucks, I say you are full of it because the service I receive from them is better than than the Verizon service that my folks have (call quality, dropped calls, you name it! Except for Ev-do, that is one of the greatest things to ever happened to wireless). It just depends on how you word things that could start these big arguments. It's like you are trying to tell me that the service I have is crap and I know it but I won't admit it. Like I am stupid enough to stay with a carrier that...

I haven't said that Cingular sucks. Please point out where I said that. You can't, 'cus I did not. I did say that Cingular's CEO did NOT say that Cingular sucks, which is 100% different. Please read more closely.

I also have not said that Cingular "always drops calls". Again, please point out where I said that. Again, you can't.

I do like a good healthy debate, but your comments is anything but. They're jus' simple defensiveness. That is not a debate, that's jus' someone feelin' butt-hurt OVER a debate. There's a diff'rence.

One, I was speaking about the majority not just you (I should have worded it differently, my fault). I just happen to reply yours but this is for everyone who reads. Dude, everytime I reply to you you start crying and catching feelings about being defensive. I am not defensive. I personally think you are one of the good ones on here who acts their age. I was speaking to the TenMidgits, gunny's, and maverick96's of the world. Once again, they flame on and insult, sometimes in here but too many times in Cingy's forum. Why can't we all just get along 🙂

Far as Pittsburgh goes.. hey, its great that your gettin' great service there, Ruff. But thing is, if that was a really common occurrence everywhere, don' you think Cingular would be owning Verizon in things like churn/customer loyalty, and...

Verizon has custumer loyalty because they recieved most of their custumers a while ago with their own mergers.

Cingular, with it's recent merger, is going to take a while to build loyalty

Advertising

Verizon has officially launched it's VCast and that is what is earning them some cash

Besides that if you look at this quarter

Most people at Cingular just signed ALL NEW CONTRACTS and almost all of the former ATT SIGNED THESE NEW CONTRACTS!

VERIZON hasn't had something major like that happen .... therefore they are steadily adding people and RE-NEWING EVERYONE ELSE!

it is all on a timeline ... if you look back at one time during the merger Cingular killed Verizon with adds (and that means any renewing contracts)

Congrats.. Cing finally is getting some WCDMA phones out. That's what, like a year after Verizon got EVDO goin'?

An' why would Verizon switch to GSM when they are flat clobberin' the GSM providers already with CDMA?
