Stolen Verizon Motorola E815

My Verizon cell phone is lost or was stolen. I don't think it will be recovered. What will stop the thief, or someone he sells it to on ebay, from using it? Will Verizon know this when it's re-activated? And will they do anything about it? Thank you.

Call VZW and tell them you lost it/ got stolen, they will put it on the lost/stolen list and it cannot be reactivated.

Call VZW immediately and report the phone stolen. Your service will be suspended and the ESN will be placed into a lost/stolen database. Once that is done, if anyone tries to activate the phone, it will show up as lost/stolen and we will not activate it, but if they call in to make that change, we have no way to recover the phone, just advise them that it cannot be activated. Sorry, but at least you know that no one else can use it once you have reported it.
