i heard something like that a loooong time ago. like maybe 3 years ago that it would be this year but hasn't happened yet. i do know those tech's are outsourced and aren't vzw employees so if the contract runs out and vzw doesn't feel like paying you know what happen's next. but thats a big key to vzw's success i don't see it going ANY time soon.

or position is secure. if we didn't exist wait times would be longer and sales reps would waste so much time just on tech issues. They need us so the sales reps can make the store money.

You may be mixing things up a bit, there would be a difference between service techs in the store & insurance. Most providers use a 3rd party insurance provider who uses usps or a delivery service for insurance replacements. Service techs in the store, available to speak with customers, are invaluable (though too many of the decision makers in the wireless industry see this as an expense & ignore the $$ made & saved by providing good service...). These tech can troubleshoot the equipment & really determine if the problem warrants replacement or can be resolved via programming or provisioning. I'm sure not all stores would have someone, I hope @ least 1-2 stores in an MSA would have a tech available at some times during the week...
