Verizon UI-Why different on differnt phones??????????

Just curious....I know Verizon is going with the new UI on all the phones so they are uniform, but if that's the case, then why do some offer options that others don't? For instance, on the 8100 you can change the size of the font, but you can't on the RAZR or the 950. That's just one. I've notices several differences. Can someone please explain?

I noticed that too. My theory is Verizon makes more money off of the sale of an LG phone than any other manufacturer so they are going to put all of the features (menu options) in their LG's and not have them in other manufacturer's models. Now, that is just my communist theory.

The real reason is probably something to do with compatibility wi...

Not supported through the OS the phone runs... If the OS doesn't support font size/type changes than it won't be added as a menu option. Changing font sizes in Motos is cross platform. I've seen that option avail in Nextel iDEN Motos, Cingy Motos, etc...

...or I could be talking out my rear, but I'm almost positive that's what it is... You'd think VZW would be happy enough with their logo on the outside of every phone like most carriers... But then again, if I was them and I could push the manf, I would too.

So what you are saying is that the phones are running 2 OS's??? The original manufacturer's one and then the Verizon one overtop of the one the manufacturer loaded??? Now, that would...

No, it's one OS. Series 60, Symbian, or whatever... However, like the computer analogy, the way you are able to manipulate icons on a windows desktop (color, size, etc). In Windows you can tweak the UI using the 'gpedit.msc' app (in Windows\System32 folder), to activate & deactivate a user's ability to change certain areas like not being able to alter the background....

Indeed. The OS in a wireless phone loads just like any other computer. The same way your laptop/PC calls apps to load on start-up is possibly the same way the new UI loads on the phone...

Verizon developed the UI - LG was just the first to implement it.

Proof of this is established by looking at any LG's prior to the 7000 AND by looking at any LG that is not made for Verizon. THAT is the LG UI. Not what is on the Verizon LG's.

was the lg 4500 created before the 7000? i'm pretty sure mines had a VERY simular ui as to what they use on lg's and all phones now. of course it wasn't as graffic but looks like the same plan as the 7000,8000, and 8100.

The UI on the 4500 is the same as the 6000. It was the old LG UI before they adopted the Verizon standard UI.

Not at all. I can, if I REALLY stretch it can see minute roots of the UI in my sister's old 6000, but not enough to say that it was the base for the Verizon UI. I honestly feel that it was something that Verizon came up with on their own - possibly with some help from the LG designers - but Verizon's idea.

You are entitled to your opinion, and you have your reasons for it....and you aren't trying to tell me that my opinion is wrong. No worries, there will be no wars here. 😁
