odds of unlocked phones?

What are the odds of getting an unlocked CDMA phone that's not 3y old? how come I can't take a sprint phone & put it with verizon's service? Isn't that illegal antitrust bundling...to force ppl into a specific catalog of phones to partake in service? It's not as if the producer of a quality phone NEEDS verizon...

It isn't really illegal. CDMA phones operate differently from GSM phones. With GSM phones, you just slip your SIM card into an unlocked phone and you can use it for another service, providing it has both 850 & 1900 bands on the phone. For calls, it's ok, but if you want to use the features that came with the phone, that might not work with the service you're transferring the phone to since the phone's made for a specific service. Example would be using a Cingular phone on T-Mobile. If you want to use the data services, more than likely, it'll try and connect to Cingular instead of T-Mobile. With CDMA, the entire phone is made for a specific service. Data services on a Sprint phone definitely won't work with Verizon as it isn't made fo...

You can program the data settings into unlocked GSM phones in order to have them access the correct mobile web. This would also be possible with CDMA phones if the carriers did not insist on hiding the settings from the consumer - which can also be a good thing because that way people don't screw it up by messing around.
