Verizon-Sprint Roaming Agreement- How Extensive?
Caught this on another forum:
Best yet..Sprint roams onto Verizon's network for FREE with a simple phone setting.
How true is that? Don' sound quite right to me.
I know that VZW has a very extensive roaming agreement wit' ALLTEL, but Sprint? Or is this guy talkin' 'bout illegitimately usin' the VZW network?

I thought Sprint users could roam on verizons network for an extra five bucks as long as it didn't go beyond half their minutes. I have no idea if there is a phone setting that would allow exclusive use of the big V network. I doubt it. verizon and sprint have a huge roaming agreement, do they not? Anyone 🙂

For Spring users, I believe if you're roaming for more than half your minutes on another network they cancel your service or something to that nature. So it doesn't really matter if they can roam on Verizon's towers, cause if they do that too much, they'll probably become a VZW customer after Sprint shuts them off.

There is a HUGE roaming agreement between Sprint and Verizon. It allows Sprint users access to the Verizon network as well as ALL of Verizon's roaming partners and allows Verizon customers access to Sprint's network. It benefits Sprint MUCH more than it does Verizon. This is mainly how Sprint obtained alot of their coverage.

I do not know. I think that part of the agreement was geared more toward EVDO coverage, but I'm not sure. Could also just be to allow Verizon customers access to Sprint towers in a shared market simply to assure the best reception for all customers alike.

Last I knew, VZW took out most of the SPCS towers from their PRLs. Starting with the 5003x series.

Verizon & Sprint don't have many roaming agreements, to my knowledge, simply because they cover most of the same markets. I know when I go to Saugatuck Michigan, Sprint covers that area, but it's always Alltel that picks up my call, simply because Verizon has the roaming agreement for SW Michigan. Otherwise if Sprint picks up my call, I would get hit with roaming charges if I answer or make a call.

They do have a roaming agreement. Where do you think Sprint got all of their coverage???
Sprint only covers major markets with their own native towers. The rest is a roaming agreement with Verizon that allows Sprint users to access all of Verizon's towers as well as those of Verizon's roaming p...

I got friends in NorCal who are pretty unhappy wit' Sprint up there, 'specially when it comes to reception indoors. What is goin' on?

Couldn't tell you what is going on. I am just 100% sure that there is a roaming agreement. I don't know...

While they do have roaming agreements setup, the key is that the PRLs disallow roaming onto the other carriers network where there is native coverage.
For example. Sprint has their own coverage in Washington DC as does Verizon. So a Sprint phone is programmed as Sprint ONLY in that zone. You leave Washington DC and go to an area that Sprint does NOT have native coverage the PRL will find out who the roaming partner is, which in some cases is Verizon Wireless. This works vice versa too.
