EV-DO deployment Question

Rob545

hi everyone (im new to this so forgive me if i sound a little dumb 😛)

Why is EV-DO taking so long to deploy over teh entire Verizon network?

If I remeber correctly it only took Cingular about a year or two to completely overtap TDMA with GSM. I really want an EV-DO phone but EV-DO coverage is only available in select areas around me.

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if EV-DO can be depolyed in 800 only band markets. I noticed it's only available in markets that uses the 1900 band. Certain services are tested in the biggest markets first before they're expanded in other markets to see if it takes off. The wireless internet service doesn't offer the fastest speeds in all markets either. EV-DO is available in my area overall, but they're not available at my house. That will likely be temporary as they try to add that feature to towers they're on. Yes I am still waiting on EV-DO coverage here in Nashville through Verizon.
They have EV-DO in the smaller markets such as Memphis and Knoxville, still not sure why its there before Nashville.. but I am patiently waiting.

Does anyone know if there is a resource for this? Something that establishes a timeline for when new EV-DO markets will become available??

Thanks in advance.

What I've heard is there really aren't any huge plans for expansion right now. They are trying to get the number of subscribers up in the current areas before they expand it out further.

Well I can assure you that just about everyone I know in the area is using Verizon.

Im aslo sure that there are more Verizon customers here than are in the other places in TN that EV-DO is online.

What I meant was, they are trying to get more subscribers to use the EVDO/VCast/Broadband services before they expand its coverage.

I agree! I'm in an area that is about 20 miles outside of EVDO. It sucks!
