New Every 2 Question

I have a Treo 650, been pretty good, but want to upgrade to the 700. My wife is up for her new every 2, and wants my phone for the calendar aspect etc, so is willing to buy the Treo 700 with her 100 off and then we have verizon swap our phones.

Am I going to run into any obstacles with them when I do this.. I was planning on going in there and telling them what I want to do, so it can be purchased / transferred right then.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

They may give you some crap in the store for doing that. Your best bet will be to have her go in and buy the 700 and have it activated on her account. Then go back to your house and go online and change them online.

malke certain your third phone is a pda type phone.if not you will end up having csr do the change. but realy over all it would be just easier to get it done in store.but you may have to pay 20.00 for them to do it in store. so if they want to do that, then you can go home ,try the change online and if it doesnt work. then call the 800 number it lists and get csr to do the change.also when you call let them know you was trying online.that way they dont try to charge you.

the way it works, for renewing your contract and utilizing your new every two...you get a phone at the promotional cost and and additional $100 off... the account you are getting the new phone for is being renewed thats why the the phone needs to say on the account for at least 30 days..and plus there is no commission on the sale is the phone isn't on the account for 30 days..

you get a $100 off promotional cost because you have been a loyal customer with verizon..

Not true. I do upgrades and ESN changes on the same lines all the time and always get paid my commission. It shouldn't be a problem.

Yep...true true. Once you purchase a phone it is your phone. The cellular company cannot tell you that you can't switch who is using which phone. Imagine if you got a free Tivo for signing up with dish but dish says you can only use that Tivo in your bedroom...

My billing system won't let the ESN be activated on another line on the same account for 3 months after the upgrade is done. If I try to put it through, it will keep giving me errors. I a policy that they really try to enforce and I'm not aware of any loopholes to get around it (at least in my area).

I made the original post.. the other wrinkle to this whole thing I forgot to mention is that my wife and I still have separate accounts, haven't really got around to combining our phone bill yet.

It's sounding like it's not worth the hassle to save $100. Maybe I'll wait until the 700 goes down in price a little.

Thanks for the responses everyone.

It shouldn't be a hassle. I do flip flop on ESN's all the time.

Generally with PDAs and VCAST phones, you cannot do the ESN change online. There are certain features that have to be added to the account that you cannot add yourself online, which means CS would have to do the change. No guarantee that the $20 esn fee would be waived. In my area, if you are switching between 2 phones, that carries 2 $20 fees. 😳

Buy the phone from me. I won't charge for crap like that. Boy...and the direct reps say that indirects are shady. Charging for simple ESN changes! HOLY COW!

Most people that have PDA phones are merits customers so the fee doesn't apply anyway. Almost everyone with a Treo/Blackberry/Other has unlimited data too so they are over the $80 mark.
