I just realized something. If I have a Treo 650 or 700w and have the unlimited $40-$50/month data plan ($40 w/ voice $50 w/out voice correct?) and then I want to connect my laptop as well, since the DUN bluetooth profile is disabled on VZW Treo's that means I have to in addition to the $300+ for a Treo buy a $200 card for my notebook AND pay ANOTHER $40-$50/month for an additional unlimited data plan?
If this is currently accurate then it's something VZW (and anyone else setup this way) needs to look into and work out, cause that's a rip off.
Can someone verify if that's accurate or not?
...
Just keeping this at the top 😁
...
There is something coming that will allow you to use EVDO phones as a modem for broadband speeds. I'm not sure if this includes the Treo, but I'd say it's possible.
...
It is already possible. VZW will NOT make you pay for 2 seperate unlimited data plans. You pay the 40-50 for the 1 unlimited data plan, and if you want to tether the Treo 700 as a modem to use broadband on your computer you pay an additional 15.00 for that feature. Total cost of having the unlimited data plan, with wireless sync, and the tethering option on a Treo 700 is 59.99. Which is the exact same cost it would be to have unlimited broadband access on a PC card. So all in all not a bad deal if you ask me.
...
I've never heard of that. As far as I know it isn't even possible to use the device as a modem at this point??
If you work for Verizon what is that tethered plan called in the billing system?
...
I thought that was only available on the Blackberry 7130e?
...
I disagree with your "not a bad deal" assesment...When I get internet for home, office etc I pay ONE fee regardless of how many devices are using it that connection. Plus, $59.99 is NOT the "exact same cost it would be to have unlimited broadband access on a pc card"...I just double checked it and my original post on price is wrong...for the slow ass network it's $59.99 and for the broadband (I'm assuming EVDO?) it's $79.99...I think both are less when they are combined with a voice plan.
Paying even a penny more than that for the privelage of being able to actually USE that service with your laptop or your phone is a rip off in my opinion...I wouldn't doubt all carriers are doing that and not just Verizon, but ... still, it's a rip off....

the 59.99 plan is EVDO but with a customer who also carries a voice plan with Verizon. The 79.99 plan is for the service outright (no voice plan). Your internet service at home is provided I assume by direct line vs. wireless service that's being provided via Verizon, that would mean every device you put on your connection only limits your speeds on your connection, not other people. The towers on the other hand would be handling multiple devices but giving the same connection speed, hence the charge for each device. However, certain PDA phones are now capable of tethering to a laptop, so you'd have just one actual connection device, but I'm unsure of any additional costs with respect to that process.
...
But if VZW didn't disable the dialup networking profiles on their bluetooth capable phones then the devices could be tethered and only the max connection bandwidth of the one device would be used (shared between the PDA and the laptop)...but of course VZW decided that was too nice to allow that included portion of those devices to remain intact, so they disabled BT's DUN profile so they could charge people for it instead...
It just sucks...I'm also tired of the nitwits around here that defend VZW for doing this as they are encouraging VZW (and other carriers that are certainly watching how this effects VZW revenue) to keep doing it and or start doing it...I guess they like being bent over (and please, for those that I am talking about, I'...

That's kinda harsh. 🤣 I agree it'd be nice, but alas, that's the way it is for now. My guess is that the tethering will be slow to come around, Verizon wants to make their money and that's their business. Oh well, have a fun day.
...
Oh, so it's ok for you to come on here and post YOUR BS, but it's not ok for VZW reps to respond to your criticism. I am sorry sir, but it sounds like YOU are the one that sucks, not VZW. If you want to post the SAME criticisms that we have heard FOREVER and not expect to get the SAME rebuttals and responses, then I would suggest you find somewhere else to post your opinions.
Hopefully, you will think harder before making statements like this in the future.
...
Jesus Christ...Read my response to the first guy to say this...Does it not occur to you folks that it's possible others here have been round the block on a given discussion with someone else and don't care to get back into it?
I mentioned VERY specifically that he was a problem in a previous post on mine and that he needs to simply accept the fact that we agree to disagree...Was I nice? No, thats cause in my experience with this person he is a jackass.
...
I'm sure he is, but he's still gonna reply to you whether you tell him to or not. That was kinda my point. People tend to enjoy pushing buttons around here and responding to the in any way usually makes it worse. Ok, jumpin' off the high horse now. 😛
...
hummm. seems to me that sdgmcdom is always the one calling people nimwits and idiots and the such. Makes you wonder who the jackass really is...
I encourage discussion and welcome those that disagree. You sir (sdgmcdom) seem to think that if someone posts and disagrees with you...you take it personal. I am not "pushing" buttons. In fact, I had totally forgotten that you were the major "bluetooth" opponent, until now. But all the same, I don't think something like whether you can use bluetooth for what you want to use it for is such a life and death subject that the mere thought of it makes your blood boil.
You say that you should be able to use cellular data for all your applications (laptop, PDA, etc). You say you are being ri...

I suppose having a line of service on a voice plan and not being able to use it on an unlimited amount of phones...(i.e. just like your home phone line)...is a rip off too...
...
You've been a problem in some of my previous posts...Get something straight, each person has their own idea of whats a rip off and what is not in a given situation. You do not agree with me here (or elsewhere) and that is fine...But that IS YOU, this IS ME...Get a grip and get lost.
...
😳 relax y'all. Everyone can post up here. Just cause he doesn't agree with you and you don't agree with him (assuming gender here) doesn't mean neither of you can post or reply to someone else's statement. You post something and someone rips you for it, put on a helmet, go grab a nut cup, and tough it out. Freedom of speech works both ways. Those who voice their opinions are bound to get opinions from other sources that they may not agree with, but sadly, you opened yourself up for that the minute you made your opinion public. Enjoy! 🤣
...
You obviously do not get it...that person and I have gone round and round on an issue almost identical to this one...we both know the other isn't going to budge, yet he continually gripes about what I post; regardless of the fact that he and I are both on opposite ends of the spectrum and HE KNOWS IT...Thus, it's pointless for him to again gripe about what I have to say...It's as if he is just bored and wanting to be a pain in the arse, thus as soon as I saw him chime in here, I posted that reply to him and that's all I will be saying to him...
And, he WAS REPLYING TO ME not just someone else in the thread...
...
I know, once again some one trolls you and you kinda have to deal with it. Maybe he doesn't like your posting as much as you hate his, at least y'all got something in common. 🤣 It's just annoying, but some people are just bored.
...
WOW. LOL. Sounds like you need to get the grip. I just get tired of people coming on here time after time complaining about rates/costs of phones/what phones can't do and every cell company is robbing people.
I also am not singling you out. If you think that I watch what you say to purposely view opposite you...well, don't think so highly of yourself.
But just the fact that you want me to "get lost" because I don't agree with you...that means you are the one with the problem.

Your an idiot...go check out EVERY OTHER CELL PHONE COMPANY ON EATH that does NOT disable the STANDARD/INCLUDED BLUETOOTH PROFILES on EVERY cell phone they sell.
you need to get a grip...Sorry I just thanked you in another reply...Jesus.

🤣 I could write a book about this site.

be sure to mention how you can't edit your posting after posting it to correct typo's you missed cause you hit post before proofing it...
😡

Murphy's law, just when you make a strong point you misspell something or type the same word like three times. Frustrating, but if you correspond with the person often, you know whether their an idiot who can't type, or a person who just fugged up the typing by accident, or a person who makes run-on sentances. 🤣

and I answered before seeing your above "rip off" rant, so I guess the same applies! oh and there is not 1 provider who has 100% limitless phones..."idiot". 🙄
...
Name a limit regarding BLUETOOTH on another providers supported phone? Specifically where the manufacturer of the phone included that bluetooth option/profile and the carrier disabled that option.
...
Apparently no one that's responded so far knows exactly what the cost/process etc here would be? Anyone?
...
Yep, I think that is exactly what Verizon is trying to make you do. Its also th reason I am not willing to upgrade my phone from an older VX6000 which is permitted to me used as a modem for Dial Up Networking, even if at a slower speed, and not willing to agree to any new Verizon contract. Until VZ permits us to actually use soe of the features the phones are designed for, I'll just stay with the older phone and stay off contract. Maybe another carrier will start doing a better job and we can switch. Eventually VZ might start listening to their customers.

Your comparing your 6000 to a subject of EVDO!?!?! Your phone does not even support EVDO, so there are no limits or caps to your by VZW to it, the phone cant do it, period! Your phone supports the 1X, with a simple mobile office kit you are able to connect and there are no other fees or required features. Your billed with your plan and basics MOU, nothing more!
...
Buy they won't even allow is to disable EVDO if we don't want it, and use basic 1X for DUN which is fine for most of us who only need DUN for travel. With VZ's new policy, we would have to buy a $720 + taxes a year seperate plan for those occassional uses. That's a complete rip off!
...
Are you on the same subject here? I honestly think you are thinking about something else! On your 6000 is NOTHING else needed and NO features to pay for! Buy the kit, plug it in, and its no different then you making a phone call, it only counts as minutes and your 6000 uses the 1x
...
That is exactly what I still want to be able to do if I upgrade to a later phone. VZ doesn't allow this on the LG 8100.

I can do this with my e815. 😁

thank you...at least someone gets it...

As of right now the only device that offers the additional tether rate is the Blackberry 7130e.
$45/month for unlim data via Blackberry.
+$15/month for unlim tether to laptop.
If all goes well you could look forward to seeing this offered on PDAs too.
...
not true,.. the 7250 will do the same as the 7130
...
7250 will allow for tethered broadband?!?!
...
I haven't read that on any of the 7250 training. Thank you for pointing that out. You learn something new on here everyday!
...
Also the xv6600 will do this btw
...
$15 is more reasonable, but I still can't help but to think the "unlimited data" should be tied to the USER paying the bill NOT the device itself and if VZW didn't specifically F with bluetooth on devices as they are designed to enable them to charge to use their service instead it would work native on the devices in question for a reasonable cost...
I'm just disappointed in this constant nickel and diming of their customers (that goes for VZW and other carriers)...Hanging someone upside down and shaking them until all their loose change falls out of their pockets is not a way to make money and that's what the wireless industry is doing to their customers.
It's pretty disappointing that with all this cool new technology that would all...

where are some of you getting these things from!? i love this site but lets be honest, on a good day maaaaaybe 2 of 10 replies that are answers, suggestions, or advice are correct. to many posts and reposts of hear-say....
Anywho...for the 650 or 700 tethering *can* be done with evdo, is it an option that we will *support* (ie tell you how) , no. There is NOT a package, option, feature, kit, etc that is offered and backed by us right now for them. But to be honest, anyone that has a 700 for the right reasons and knows the phone will be able to do it 5 mins tops -cough- Bluetooth seems -cough- when you get it open no cords or features needed, yeh evdo!
Now for legal use and how to,.. a 7130 or even 7250 (yes, 7250 too) you can tether ev...

Are you talking about a hack for the 650 & 700 or simple change in a portion of the software? The former IMO & experience is usually messy, the latter would be nice, care to share?

By the way, thank you...
It's nice to see that there are at least some people on here that actually want to answer someones question and don't just immediately bash people for complaining about the almighty VZW.

650 isn't EVDO capable. I just found that out today.
...
Where would one find that S/w download 5.5.1?

If you plan on using 2 data devices PDA, and Aircard at the same time you will have to pay for data services on each one. Now if your doing esn changes from one to the other than no you will only pay for one. Bear in mind that you will have to change your PP everytime you do an esn change from one to the other.
...
yea, I know I can change ESN's but having to go through that process every time I wanted to switch is a massive pain. Thanks though
