This may seem like a redundant issue but...

I am a current customer of Cingular with a TDMA phone. I am not happy with call quality ie. static, voice clarity, dropped calls etc. Should I switch to Verizon or upgrade to Cingular GSM assuming call quality is the prdominent issue for me.

I live in the eastern Pa area

I live in Allentown and work in NJ. The service in Eastern Pa has been extremely great for me. I would recommend anyone to use VZW in Pa.

Going to Cingular GSM would not greatly affect call quality due to the fact that GSM is merely TDMA over a wider bandwidth.
Also a GSM system is more likely to drop calls thgan a CDMA system due to slot cycling and also because the system is forced to assign a new channel every time you change towers or even sectors on the same tower.

Verizon's CDMA is a superior network if the coverage is good in your area. If you get better coverage with Cingular then the choice is unfortunately clear.

Jeff -

Where do you guys get this stuff? GSM has the truest sound quality of any technology out there. TDMA over a wider bandwidth? Granted, GSM is a TDMA overlay, but truth be told, has a smaller bandwidth footprint than TDMA.

Any network is superior if it gets better coverage in a given area. The best network in the world sucks to the person who can't use it.
