Best low end phone for grandparents?
Basically, I want something very simple with excellent reception...or, at least, the best of the simple, low-end phhones.
They don't need anything other than voice. Which one of the low-end phones would you recommend?
Thanks
Brian

(this is based on my personal trials and observations)
1. Retractable antena puts them into the (anolog also category, however E911 GPS is there) hence will work in the boonies.
2. LARGE NUMBERS CLEAR DISPLAY - Huge display with large numbers, after some tuning with BITPIM you can get rid of everything that may confuse a person.
3. Open to talk/Close to END (unlike Nokias, that are nonflip). Your grandparents won't be looking for the SEND button on an incoming call.
4. Easy to charge, minimal dexterity needed to stick a highly visible light gery (yellow marked UP arrow) charger cord. (LG with this regard is more di...

The hinge on the 670 is now a "known issue" but I know someone with over 900 hours (confirmed by the phone's counter that rolled over) of talk time on it that has no problem with the hinge. I think it's a user problem becuase she has worn that phone down and it still works great.
The 670 is all digital though even though it has a retractable antenna, same as the vx8000 and cdm8940.
Wow, well then I was talking out of my ... when I posted. 😁 Thanks for the update.
"Even though it says ALL DIGITAL, it still has analog for emergencies" Uhhhhh no
"Guaranteed V-Cast is coming to Corvalis, OR on January 1st" So Mr. Go Wireless that's been open less than a month, how would you know this???? Especially since it's completely wrong..
"The Nokia 6015i has a SIM chip in it so you can use it in Europe. The one I have is a display model so it doens't have it though." The cheapest phone is going to work in Europe? I bet.
"The $5 messaging plan is unlimited to anyone"... If this were true, why would there be a 10 or 15 dollar version!!! "DOUBLE OR TRIPLE UNLIMITED!!!" idiots...

If they're careful, most any phone can be good for a grandparent and most grandparents know the value of things so they will be VERY careful. I don't think I've ever talked to an elderly person with a broken phone. In fact most people over 60 have phones from 97 that still work fine.
Strangely anyone under 30 can't seem to have a phone that works for more than a year.....hmmmm
Very true statement, (however grandparents may fall, have coordination problems) etc..
The phone my grandmother broke had - not a scratch on it - mint...., no stuff on the screen, nada... however in two halves. :-|.
fecicus happicus as aristotle pointed out.
As for the under 30 crowd, they're like me, they "expect" the stuf...

I can guess..., so please don't be alarmed....
Completely un-intentional typo.
You may need the "push one for 911 functionality etc.."
In the same trials I mention, the nokia when configured in "High" mode would "send them running for the phone" - This may be an undesired effect.
Avoid phones that look EXTEMLY SAVVY, they'll be afraid to break it, or do something wrong with it, and just won't use it. (In this regard
SCH A670's round design looks "non-threatning")
Avoid phones that are invisible, (esp. black in color.) It will ring but they won't know where it is, or loose it and send you driving to their house to see if they are OK.
As I observed, people of age tend to leave the mobile phone in one place and then when i...
