With the launch of the LG 7000, VZW is standardizing the software that the phones use to operate. No matter what new phone you buy whether it's Moto, LG, Samsung, etc...eventually all of them will operate exactly the same way...I work at VZW and think this is AWFUL. This is like the introduction of Windows all over again. I like this forum, and I'm curious what everyone else thinks. It's not going to happen suddenly, but over time with the introduction of every new model phone starting with the 7000!

But Verizon is the Microsoft of mobile phone services...why are you surprised?

There are not as many phone options available with Verizon so it's cost effective to make them all alike I suppose.

It'll also standardize things for Joe Cellphone out there, as well as the CC reps: "OK, to access your phonebook, do A, B, C". Easier to remember when there's only one way to do it.

That's why so many people tend to stick with one manufacturer. I hear it all the time.

Its a good way to lock in your user base. They all gt used to a caertain way of doing things. Most people do not want to learn new ways of doing the same irregardless of the features. Look at the succes of the iPod. Easy GUI. iriver, iAudio, and other make better DAPS with more features but require a more extensive learning curve.

The path of least resistance is alive and well.
This is a good corporate move for Verizon and their user base.

I agree and stay with Audiovox phones built by Toshiba for just that reason. I like the way they Toshiba laid out the Audiovox CDM 9000, 9500, and hopefully the 9900 if Verizon clears up their "issues" with that phone. I have used others, a few years back. Motorola's layout and graphics at the time did not appeal to me.

I see this as a positive. I believe it will make it easier to get people to upgrade their phones because they don't have the learning curve fear. It also will standardize the software to the point that third party software writers cn actually write software for a single platfoem.

Didn't hear about it, but if it's confidential, I'd watch what you tell people unless you want 'IS' on your back.
