Problems with Samsung SHC-a670
After several days of experimenting I have finally been able to get the phone to dial both the qnc and express networks. There are several problems that I have found.
I installed the USB Drivers and the QuickLink software on a laptop running Windows XP Pro.
The first problem that I experienced was that the modem was being initialized with ATS7=6010
This is an invalid value for that register and it should simply be "60". Apparently what is happening is that the InactivityTimeout value is being appended to the CallSetupFailTimer. THIS IS APROBLEM WITH THE SAMSUNG CDMA MODEM DRIVER. This problem can be correct by either editing the OEM33.inf file and removing th...

Also, I made 3 calls to Verizon Data Support. They were of absolutely no help with either issue. Hopefully, someone at Verizon will read this post and forward it to their data engineers.
Sorry to hear that. To be honest with you, I'm thinking that such a small percentage of our customers use Express Network or 1xRTT with mobile office kits that any problems that arise, aren't really a big concern. However, if you send exactly what you wrote directly to our WDTS center (tech support), I'm sure they would investigate it and take it up with Samsung directly.

With SPRINT allowing their Vision customers unlimited access to their equivalent of the Express Networks, Verizon appears to be following suit by allowing phones that are equipped for National Access to access the network and only charging airtime minutes.
I suspect that Verizon doing this for 2 reasons: 1) Eventually the QNQ network will be dismantled. 2) Verizon is jockeying to lower their rates for the ExpressNetwork due to lower prices by the competition.
As far as Verizon's Data Technical Support goes, they are totally worthless when it comes to looking at Modem Logs and basic knowledge of the AT command set. They can tell you that you need the...

huh?? 😕
Phones and mobile office kits with laptops require National Access plans.

Where have you been?
You have always been able to access the QNC network at 14.4K provided you phone was equipped. The charges are airtime.
If you check it out you will find that you can now access Express Networks for airtime only. Obviously you must have a phone that is capable of "National Access". No National Access plan required!

At least that's the sale's line they use to get you to sign up. You can use it like dial up with any dialup service and only pay airtime and your monthly fee with that dialup provider. The speed will be slower than national access though.
NetZero = 9.95
Nataccess = 79.99 or whatever
If the extra speed is worth the 70 bucks, go for it.
HOWEVER, if you have a picture capable phone with the GIN (Get It Now) feature, then you can get on Express Networks for airtime only.
The same is true on the SPRINT Vision plan except you can get on their high speed internet all the time for free.
Please don't contradict this - it is true.

I worked for Sprint PCS before Verizon Wireless. Sprint PCS discontinued their mobile office kits because their customer could browse the web unlimited with Vision.
Explain how GIN is capable of Express Network by using normal airtime minutes. What is the GIN program called? Never heard of this.

Also, the data cables are available for the SPRINT vision phones still - you just have to get them 3rd party.

Right, Sprint PCS discontinued them though because of that. You can get almost anything for phones through 3rd party vendors nowadays.
As far as the GIN Express Network option, I've never heard of this. I'm sort of the tech/sales of my area, and I'd be surprised if this was true and was never brought to my attention. If it is t...
