2 Phones, 1 phone number?

Here's my deal. I work in a classified environment where if I bring a camera phone anywhere NEAR work, I will be anally f*cked by Federal Police Officers. I CAN however bring a normal phone past the gates as long as I leave it in my car.

From stories of some of my friends, phones don't hold out too well if you leave them in an extremely hot or cold car all day. So I decided that I will just buy a nice camera phone when my contract ends this month and just leave it at home.

IF I keep my old phone (non-camera), is there a way to keep it programmed for my same cell number so that I can keep it in the car for emergencies? Or am I reaching too far here?

would this be something I'd discuss with a Verizon rep when I buy my new phone, or do you think I should keep it hush hush?

Also, how do you know if its capable of dual NAM? I have an LG TM510 I'd use as my backup

It is just me or a Dual Nam phone will let you have 2 different phone numbers on the same equipment. If he wanted 2 equipments w/the same mobile number then the network will only recognized 1 of them. If you can clarify the better.

Much easier on GSM than CDMA, lawrence... just swap the SIM into the other phone, and everything goes over... phonebook, account info, phone number...no headaches.

Well, as far as I know, Verizon doesn't do GSM yet do they? Once they do, I could buy any GSM phone and use it on Verizon and that would make me happy.

I know that this isnt condoned by many carriers, but that means that if I bought that verizon phone, I could take the sim out and use it on any other GSM phone right? Not that I'd do that for the pricetag of the verizon GSM

That Samsung WILL NOT work on U.S. GSM networks. By the way, Lawrence, I'm becoming skeptical about whether or not this guy actually works for Verizon. One answer to your problem would simply to do an ESN change on your computer at home every day. Instead of having interchangable SIM cards, Verizon (CDMA) phones have a serial number that identifies them on the carrier's network. You can set up your account online at verizonwireless.com and one of the options on the main page is "activate your phone". So before you go to work you log on, switch the ESN online, wait five minutes, and then dial the *228 on your phone and choose option 1. It sounds a little complicated, but you can do the whole thing in five minutes. I use different Veriz...

Plus, the Sammy is too expensive for such a stunt. The ESN trick (well, it's not really a trick) is about the only way to do what you want to do. He's right, it's not too difficult to do, it's just gonna be a bit of a pain to remember to do it every morning. Still, if you want to make an omelet, etc., etc.

I don't work for verizon directly but I own a store and am an agent. The VX6000 is Dual nam capable. I own one and sell em' all day. People who don't know jack should keep it at home. Peace. BK

the vx6000 is a dual nam phone but still, you cannot have one phone programmed on nam1 and the other phone on nam2 or vise versa and just use the first on nam1 and the second on nam2. the thing is with dual nam is that you can have two numbers on one phone and just switch back and forth if you want to do that. but it dosent mean you can have one number and two phones. in the verizon system you cannot leave two esn's present on the same phone number. unfortunately the only way is to do the esn change everyday. sorry bout your luck but thats the straight up answer and only possible way.

ok i see what your original question was im sorry. you cant keep the phone programmed with your number on it no. it will still give you the ability to call 911 and cust care and all that but for actual service it will not be able to make a call if you are using your other phone for service. leaving the phone in your car does hurt it a lot. heat and cold and cause the phone to sweat and can cause water damage and multiple problems. if u look on the battery of the vx6000 you will notice a hole that is red at the bottom on the battery, if that turns green it is water damaged. hope this answers ur questions.

wait, so if I keep my old phone, and they program the new phone for service... if I try to turn on my old phone and dial, I can't dial out, BUT i CAN dial 911? That'd be ideal then, because I'd only want to keep it in the car for a breakdown or emergency.

Plus you might want to keep a car charger in your car because even if the phone is turned off the charge doesnt last longer then about a week and a half.
