data plan

I am thinking about getting this phone, because of its email capabilities. The only thing holding me back right now is the expensive data plans. I would be reading and writing emails frequently throughout the day (I do not plan on browsing the internet much on the phone). I will not pay $45 dollars a month for a data plan...too expensive, but I am thinking about getting the $25 data plan. Any suggestions about how much 10MB will get you, as far as email everyday and limited web browsing.

Also, if the 10MB data plan isn't enough, is the unlimited VCAST plan ($15) worth getting to read and write email each day.

Thanks for any suggestions.

it doesnt matter what phone it is really.... for instance, u know those ad banners at the top of a web page? those are 18 kilobytes on avg...there are 16,000 some odd kb's in 1-mb if that helps u. next time u check your email, take a look at the bottom for how big it is for better estimating. also, the $45 unlim is usually best for customers, just from personal experience. but we also have voice AND data plans that will allow your data plan to be cheaper. for instance 450 mins is 39.99 plus unlim data is 44.99. if u do a voice and data the data is then only $40. saves u $5 and the higher in mins u go, the cheaper the unlim data is. but call and ask a rep about those plans....nothing against store reps but they usually know more about...

I agree with you, but, if the OP is planning on getting the LG VX-9800 (which has email capabilities), then they should only get V-Cast and that will give them unlimited data. That is why I asked which phone.

in regards to vcast, it does not give them unlim data usage...it gives no airtime for gin/vcast browsing, and no airtime for mobile web browsing...it will still chrg for kb/mb usage. if u have a pda or smartphone (palm treo/blkbry), a data plan is recommended. there is no pda/smartphone with vcast.....for his email usage, he'd prolly need one of those so the vcast pkg wouldnt work.

yah, but the VCast + Wireless Sync via GIN will be unlimited usage, just $15/month for VCast and $20/month for Wireless Sync. This is, of course, for the 9800.

I'd just get the unlim data, it's one thing to manage your minutes, but to have to manage your downloads? What a pain that'd be. Plus depending on if your employer has an agreement with verizon or not you can get 12% off the $45.

or the op could get a 9800 with vcast and if he/she can deal with the smaller screen he would be all set as vcast on a evdo phone includes unlimited mobileweb 2.0/gin browseing and video clips airtime

Thanks for all the responses. I was interested in getting the 7130 blackberry b/c the push email, but i didnt want to pay $45/month for data. But it sounds like such a hassle to monitor data usage each day, so i may have to go with the unlimited. thanks again....

actually, depending on your voice minutes and if it's a single line you data access charge could be as low as $20 per month. (disclaimer: with 3000 min/month + unlimited bberry $169.99)

It does on V-Cast phones. It gives you unlimited GIN and Mobile web. V-Cast is not available on PDA's so you are in a whole different ballpark when you speak of them.
