The Deal With The UI.

I liken the ui to a steering mechanism. Look at the car you drive. It has a round steering wheel. Did the manufacturer assume you wanted it to be round, or do you believe lots of experience and research over the years made it that way. The average driver has no problem with the concept of the wheel. It's round you turn it. Now lets say you are a fighter pilot or helicopter pilot. Your knowledge and ability makes you more mechanically adept than the average driver. Do you think that the major car manufacturers should start using a pedal and joy stick turning mechanism? I would say not. The VZW ui is just that. We now have over 51.3 million customers. In dealing with our customers we found it challenging over the years to troubleshoot and educ...

car is a bad comparison, some like to drive a manual, some like auto, and some may like a sport shifter. I personally like the ui, and they could easily address and fix the issue of the standard red bar and allow a little more personalization without completely abandoning the set up and I am sure verizon will probably adapt a few minor changes and add a few options to address the complaints of the restrictions over time. I have video wallpaper on the inside and outside of my phone, it plays different songs for almost everyone in my phonebook, I don't really need much more personalization than that.

what a bad example man. i get where your coming from, but honestly learning a new UI is not that hard. 🙄 . most of the people complaining about switching to a new phone because of different setups or UI are old people that are scared of technology and afraid to read a manual. the only people it should have really affected from a UI learning stand point are power users and folk that use their phone for far more than talk. learning RIMS UI in comparison to PALM OS, or WINDOWS MOBILE 5.0 is tricky to some, but how difficult is it reall to program a number in motorola v265, in comparison to the samsung a670. It's NOT!

the vzw ui is a lame way for vzw to not have to scower over whatever features each manufacturers phone has making it e...

The major problem i have with the UI is the fact that you can't customize the directional buttons...I dont need quick access to ringtones, vcast and mobile web..ITS RIDICULOUS, and yes, I know that they are just trying to get you to use stuff they sell, but come on. If they want to set em like that outta the box, fine, but there should be a way to change all four directionals....other than that, I actually like the UI and I think that it is kind of nice to be able to move from phone to phone without learning a new UI. I know it doesnt take long to learn a new one, but it can be annoying.

I don't think the UI is horrible but the RED is especially the sharp V it makes at the top right corner. I think VZW should do some sort of survey in what people would like done to the UI to make it better. i personally like lists rather than icons. the UI is def saving VZW lots of money. why not charge an extra fee for handset specific software?

one of theres days it might come to that.

i'll be happy to hear i can buy back the option of setting my time to 24 hour (military time) timing. 🙄 . espically when it a $200.00+ dollar razr which was shipped from motorola with 24 hour time capability as a standard. 😳 😲 🙄 .

none of the other color options ever worked it my phone though...it was weird..and I dont think they should be selling the rights to buy back the old UI, thats insane! If they can give you the old UI , it should be done for free...I just think they need to make it more user friendly for EVERYONE...yeah so they made it easier for idiots to use, but in the end they made things more difficult for higher end users who demand a lot of customization and options from their cell phones...I honestly believe that if you could customize this UI a little more, no one would be bitching about it...Make the UI user friendly for everyone VZN! Not just novice cell users.

Ha ha, you guys are stuck with that ui forever. The ui is so stupid and verizon is so lame for doing that as a standard. I was a customer for years before, but when they implemented that I just couldn’t stay. Verizon is not all that. I went to sprint where to my surprise the service is even better, and their phones are so bad ass. I have the Blade and you can customize the sh*t out it. Have fun, lo… if you ever want real service go with sprint or cingular 😳 🤣 😛 😎

Hey ITN,

When did you switch to Sprint? And have you dealt with their customer service? I like verizon, but the restrictions and the fact that I can get a 25% discount per month with sprint have me very intrigued...let me know your thoughts so far as a verizon to sprint customer...thanks

Hi Chris

I did my homework before I made the switch. I was concerned about Sprints CS, and their 1900 MHz band penetrating indoors as well as verizon. I’ve had Sprint for only a month and my fist bill had no mistakes. I called CS twice during the month out of curiosity about how I would be treated and it went very smooth. I’m having no problems with the signal indoors and the call clarity is far better with Sprint. I was able to swing the SERO program and got 1250 min for 50 bucks which includes free Power Vision, very sweet. I think verizon is a good company, I’m just much happier with Sprint. The cool thing about the blade and most Sprint phones is I can set it for roam only and grab a verizon tower anytime I want. The native coverage...

Ok Heres how it goes. Some make thing the new UI is great or don't care about it. I personally think it's stupid and it's just there to try to get verizon more money. (Yes its easy for people who like it to transfer to a new phone). BUT.. What about the people that don't like the UI? All the phones are the same. Yeah there is the ETF. If someone is really that mad over the UI they can cancel. I herd people say that the UI is easier for verizon because they have less trouble helping people with the UIs and getting out troubleshooting information. But its not about what verizon likes. It's about the customers of Verizon. So I think there should be two options, you could choose if you want your phone to be equipped with the Verizon UI. Or the b...

Okay, I actually agree with you (although I see in this forum we are actually in the minority). What I think a lot of people in this forum forget is everyone here is most likely 1 of 2 things... a VZW employee or (and please no one take offense) a phone geek. But when it comes down to it, how many of our 51.3 million customers are so phone obsessed (and there's nothing wrong with that) to want to join a community to talk about phones. MOST customers have difficulty personalizing caller id ring-tones, let alone doing the majority of the things people in this forum are up in arms about. I will agree that I LOVE to personalize my phone, but I am in the minority of customers. To most people, it really is just a phone. On top of that, most people...
