The problem is that 99% of the world uses GSM networks. Only the US and Korea have CDMA networks.
So if you are a cell phone manufacturer, where are you going to invest the majority of your money for future phones?
Just look at the latest 3GSM conference. Every manufacturer had some cool new GSM phones, but only a few also showed off CDMA phones. Samsung and Sanyo are the only two that produce a significant amount because both have Korean based operations.
This will never change for Verizon or Sprint. We have to just accept that fact. We will always be behind GSM companies in getting new phones. We got lucky with the Treo 700w. Palm gave the 650 to Cingular first, so when the 700 came out they already had an agreement with Palm to...

What you state is not entirely correct. From VZW own website the following countries are CDMA and your VZW phone will
work for .69 a minute.
Bermuda
Brazil
Canada
China
Dominican Republic
Guam
Israel
Jamaica
Mexico

Saipan
South Korea
Taiwan
US Virgin Islands
Venezuela

I'm not quite as pessimistic as this user. China just implemented a CDMA network last year and, well, they are huge. If only 3% of their population uses their network, that's basically another Verizon Wireless operating in the world (a little under 50 million subscribers). Freedom-deprived or not, businesses would be crazy not to try and exploit that market.
Europe is another matter though. Never is a long time, but I don't see anybody on the continent adding a CDMA network any time soon.

just wanted to make a point......the name of the trade show was 3GSM.
it's not 3CDMA. Of course the majority of phns premiered are gonna be GSM. Rich even said that he was sure Helio was upset about Pantech showing the 8300.
