"After yesterday's mega-merger deal between AT&T and BellSouth, Verizon's response was that it was trying to purchase Vodafone's 45 percent stake in their Verizon Wireless JV. Verizon has been trying to scoop up its partner's share for some time now and increasing competition from the new(est) AT&T is only going to embolden Vodafone to hold out for more money. My guess is they'll sit on the deal for a few months and allow AT&T's strategies to unfold before giving in to a buyout--if they do at all. As many have noted, Verizon Wireless is extremely profitable and growing fast. Why should Vodafone sell it? Verizon is now in the hot seat, and although it's been obvious, announcing to the world your intent to buy out a partner's share is only goi...

why would verizon care about the AT&T deal?
...
because it will dwarf them in size the combined at&t with Bellsouth makes them the largest telecommunications company imn America
...
if thats the case then how does buying out Vodafone's share make them any larger?
...
becuase they will own 100% of verizon wireless.

I see, I wonder with AT&T at the helm what changes will take place with cingular
...
well, i am sure they will spend more money on their image, more products and solutions and especially their network. i think they should get rid of the cingular brand and either adopt ATT or make a new name all together.
if you were at the helmo, what would you do?
...
I agree I think they should adopt the ATT image/name, you cant go wrong peddling AT&T. Other then that continue to do everything opposite of verizon short of their superb network. no standard ui, no crippled bluetooth, cool phones.
...
verizon would be in a little bit of trouble if they dont own 100% of verizon wireless especially since this merger of S and BLS.
the cingular brand image seems to be shot and becuase of that they are struggling, whether it is in the net adds or complaints. ATT was a great name, but ATTWS was not.
cingular needs to improve drastically in the areas of the following;
1. data speeds
2. network
3. better phones and technology
4. customer care
5. billing.
6. others.
i think if they do the above they will do well, but if they dont they will fail.
vodafone will get a lot of money from Verizon for Verizon wireless stake. the figure is about $46.5 Billion which verizon would have to fork up and that is a lot of money going out ...

🙄 ATTWS bad name 🙄 as much as i'd like to agree with you on this one i can't. i worked for that company and till this date every blue customer, and employee, wishes the buyout was in opposite. attws had just as many customers if not more at the time of the buyout. do you really think cingular or ANYONE for that matter would shell out that much money for a company with a bad name. i don't wanna debate with you on this again. you have you opinion and i have mines, but what can't be opinionated is attws to many was a good company and name.
...
yes, ATTWS had a bad name. in fact, they were actually having a lot of billing problems, and customer care problems. (not to mention integration problems which shows a lack of managment skills from the CTO side) they were actually losing subscribers for a period of time from the above reasons.
when a carrier looks at another they dont usually look at the brand name as much as they look at their other assets. their assets that ATTWS had were too good to let go, however, at the price that cingular paid, i think it was a waste and could have done a little bit better.. (i talked about this before so yea)
when you have a good size network, a lot of spectrum, and subscribers, you will always be targeted to a buy out regardless if your name...

i just hope they get NTTDOCOMO back in the picture 😳 😲 😎
...
why would they care?
its competition. wouldnt you care that your competition owns 100% of a wireless carrier and is combined to be the #1 telecommunications company?
verizon doesnt own 100% of verizon wireless and they are not the #1 telecommunications company.
