Anyone know of VZ plans to offer a more ecconomical data plan with Laptop tethering now that Cingular offers a $20 per month unlimited data package?

lol...ahh so true, if verizon stopped being so greedy sometimes they could actually grow even more than they already are.

Why would verizon charge the same price for a superior product? That would be dumb.

Pretty sure BMW isn't going to change to Saturn pricing anytime soon either

thats a horrible analogy...the difference in price of a bimmer 740 and a saturn vue is $70,000...the difference in price of data pakages is around 20 bucks. All I am trying to say is that there are cetain people who do use other carriers because verizons data plans are expensive...if they lowered their plans a little bit, they could probably attract some of those people.

BMW could lower their price and offer an crapper product too. There is a price to pay for quality. WIth you Cingular's $20 plan do you get broadband speeds in 171 major markets and 68 airports (and growing)? No, hmm, then why is it cheaper?

Verizon has broadband speeds...Cingulars EDGE is about 1/5 (in real time testing more like 1/10) the speed of EVDO. Sheer economics. Why would Red Lobster charge more for a shrimp dinner then Bonanza? If Red Lobster charged less would they have more customers? Sure. But would it be worth the much smaller margin? No. Lets say I have a pen that writes better and lasts longer then another pen. My cost to produce that pen is one dollar. I can cut costs and end up with the other pen that only costs 50 cents to produce. I sell the better pen at 1.50 and the cheaper pen at 1.00. What if I sold that better pen at 1.25? Would I sell more? Sure. But why make less on a better product?

yes, i understand the economics of the issue. And i never said that verizon should charge what cingular does...but there is probably some sort of happy medium where the number of new additions and new revenue might be worth a slight price cut. Thats all I am trying to say.

If one expects a 100 customers per day to pay $60/month and gets 120, why lower the price?

Do you know the 1st rule of programming? IF IT'S WORKING - LEAVE IT ALONE 🤣

well, this isn't programming, it's sales and marketing. ANd people have left verizon to go to other carriers because vzn's data plans are too high. All I was trying to do is make a simple point, lower price a bit and see what it would do to your overall bottomline...geez, I'm not an idiot, I have two business degrees, I know how the system works. And i never said that they should lower their price to that of cingulars, maybe try a trial period at $49.99 or $39.99, who knows they might get some more add-ons and it could outweight the decrease in revenue. I dunno, just a thought, I'm sure they wont do it, and it might not even work.

Maybe it's the market I work in but my customers are either interested in it or not. Doesn't matter the price and there is no customers around here that would say "Oh, only 50 a month instead of 60, sweet sign me up"
When customers are educated in the difference of quality and speeds of different carriers and their different pricing they still will choose Verizon in many cases... cause of the speed and service and coverage.

Like they say, what good is a cheap plan if you can't use it?

umm, i think they're already at their happy medium. The high would be more like $100/month, you're ideal is like $50 a month, so $80/month is the happy medium.

Thanks for proving my point.

In both cases the better product is about twice as much. Also, Verizon does offer unlimited data for $20 if you are on a 4000 minute voice plan.

I don't understand why everyone compares phones/plans/options to cars all the time! Just like people talking about Verizon crippling phones and saying things like "how would you like it if you bought such and such a car then found out you had to pay extra for the engine?". Come one people, you can't compare stuff like this! It is totally different!

Well, a "superior product" according to whom; their commissioned sales people? It may be superior to someone that really wants or needs their high speed network, but its an over priced albatrose to someone who needs occassional lap top connection to the net. I thought that their 1xRT network was superior because of its ease of use and low cost. Why not continue to offer that for those who only need that service? Even BMW sells a variety of cars to meet a variety of needs.

In any case, it looks like all the lap top connection data packages are going to die in the near future and VZ along with the other carriers will be the big losers. Read the front page article of the B Section of the 20 March, Wall St. Journal. The carriers are losing th...

Municiple WiFi is bs. What a waste of tax payer money. If the town I live in ever tries to implement it, I will be the first one in line telling them that it is not fair for them to use my tax money to install WiFi in the town. High speed internet is a luxury, not a a neccesity of life. If you want, it pay for it, do not use my tax money to make it cheaper for other people. I can afford it and do not care if the family down the road cannot, then they can use dial up for $10.00/ month or go to the local library and use the free internet that they offer there. I am so tired of government charity programs. Get a job, stop leeching off of those of us who work hard every day. I work 45-50 hours per week so that I can make a very, very goo...

I don't know about suffering...LOL But I do agree that some things are luxuries. Why don't we just go to a fully socialist society that encourages nothing. We get everything handed to us. More and more it looks like America is headed that way. Everything is turning government paid. I get sick and tired of working 50 hours a week to have what I have to see someone that could work choose not to because they would lose their free heat/clothes/food/hospitalizaton/prescription s/rent/etc

And I pay for them to get that. It is disgusting what democrates have done to this country.

Tax money isn't used at all in most cases. Other business entities install the systems free to the cities, and in return are able to broadcast various commercials and steer people to websites that pay the entities. Its alot the same as how VZ and others offer "limited" web browsing to sites that pay them.
In fact, now that VZ and others have lost most of the court fights against it, they are in the forfront trying to get involved with offering the services to the cities.
