"Is Verizon sliding into second, at the bottom of the 9th"?
Their coverge maps haven't changed in the last 2 years. Their phones are expensive, and cheaply made.
I truly question the quality of their coverage in North Central Florida.
I had ATTWS 6 months ago, and ATTWS TDMA sounded much better and it's coverge in this area was better than VRZ and their voice quality on ATTWS TDMA was also better. I can't speak for GSM, though I have though of changing carrier when my contract is up.
Vrz keeps saying they are spending "tons" of money to make their service better. I don't see it in this area, or as they would say: "Can you hear you me now? Good". Well NOT so good....

Yes I have read consumer reports issue of Feb of 2004, and that is one of the reasons why I went from ATTWS to Verizon. Now I wished I hadn't switched.
You can argue this point forever, but it looks like CDMA is not that much better than TDMA/GSM. Actually in this area CDMA is WORSE.
T-Mobile or ATTWS/CINGULAR is looking better all the time.
Vrn needs to get over th

As it is we have about 350,000 pops and a lot of open space. 14 towers is very significant.
No one else provides service. ATTWS has not added a new tower in 5 years in this market. When Cingular owns this market it will discover that no amount of rollover minutes will compensate for the terrible network here. ATTWS once controlled this market and Airtouch was a bit part player. Now the market is owned by Verizon. People are chomping at the bit to replace ATTWS with VZW. Why? Because ATTWS doesn't care enough about their customers even to cover the entire city limits of the small metro.
Cingular is destined to...

🙂 Yeah, it sounds a little, just a little exaggerated, however it is possible. I believe in what phonepimp says.

Hey Mr Dumbass! Do you think you know it all. I checked my database and compared it to what this guy, phonepimp said. Of course, I do not believe it can be possible in just quarter, but it is possible in a year.
Check your resources, IDIOT!! 🙄

14 towers were put in your area. You wrote that it can take anywhere from 18 months to 6 years to install a tower. You must be joking, if Verizon does not start improving i this area, they will be loosing more sales. Most people here are not interested in how fast they can transfer data. They have cable internet here. They want phone service that will work where they live.
3 miles east from where I live there is no Verizon service. And just to the southeast, there a 20sq. mile area that Verizon also does not work. But when Verizon does work, it works very well. Except for voice quality, and I have used several different mfg's phones, still not as good as the TDMA was.

Could it also be that Verizon just acquired your market recently? It could also be PCS band because ATTWS is on the A band of cellular and Cingular is on the B band which leaves the PCS band. If so then they have not had adequate time to build out. At the rate they are building out now it won't be long. In FL it is different than in WA or OR. We have Greenpeace, EarthFirst! and the associated loonies that are anti-progress. Tower building in FL is probably easier because the governments are more tech friendly. Also FL is flat. My recommendation is patience and some calls to VZW. It may get some interest in new towers in the area. Maybe they will site a tower on your property and you will make some money

Yeah that's it.... you've figured it out. there are only 2 people who don't like verizon. me and king frog. i personnaly will be writing the check to attws shareholders when i personally buy them out. actually, king frog and i are the same person. I am also Bill gates and will buy your company too. Then i'm going to sell you to a chinese pigfarm to feed you to the fat VZW pigs.

I too live in the North Central Florida area in Gainesville and I feel your frustration. I have been with Alltel, Sprint, and now Verizon. Switching to Sprint was a big mistake that I got out of just as soon as my contract was up. I've overall been very happy with Verizon's coverage with the exception that I have a dead zone right in the area where my house is located. It's frustrati...

The truth most of the other carriers to quite well here, and most of the Verizon sales people are pretty slick. Ask them a question why most of the world is using GSM, and they say because the goverments tell them they have no choice in the matter.
I find it pretty interesting there are several types of world phones out there from ATTWS/Cingular but I don't remember hearing about any of them coming from Verizon, have you?
Yes people I am a Verizon customer, and no I don't hate Verizon. I thought Verizon a "bigger company" than the rest and hoping they had the capitol to invest in making a good network great. I was wro...

By the way there three cell towers where NW 39th ave intersects with I-75 in Gainesville, Fl. I was wondering if one of those three towers was a Verizon tower.
Hey Chapperal....I looked it up and yes..on of those 3 cell sites is a VZW tower. Also..we do have a time period where you can use the phone is see if you like the service..its part of our Worry Free Garentee. There is a 15 day time period where you can return the phone and avoid the ETF. You would only be responsible for the time of use of that phone during the 15 time period.
Chapperal said:Didn't you do your research? That's exactly why a great deal of the world's population is GSM. The EU stipulated it for Europe. And the European companies that branched out bullied less developed countries into adopting the standard. I suggest you read this forum a little bit more carefully. And next time, when you refer to what Verizon employees tell customers in regards to a competing technology...perhaps you'll remember this?
