Technically no.

EV-DO phones will use the faster network when it is availible whenever you use a data feature. So browsing the web, looking at V-Cast, downloading a game, etc. should always be faster on a EV-DO phone.

In reality, browsing the web on the phone isn't much faster, primarily because it's a phone, not a computer - it takes time for the phone to figure out how to display the page.

If you use the phone as a modem with a computer, you'll see the speed difference even easier. The old 1x wasn't bad - considerably faster than a phoneline modem - but the EV-DO is really quick.

REmeber tethering your Ev-do phone to a laptop costs a lot! $60 unlimited data access on a tethered evdo phone, no per minute plan. If you get a non evdo phone you can do 1x and just use your minute. (just something to think about)

You can roam in areas where Verizon has roaming agreements with, but if you have a digital handset, and the area you travel is analog only, then the phone will show no service. If you expect to travel to rural areas a lot, then get a tri-mode phone. Last I knew, Kentucky is a state that is still mostly analog outside of Louisville and around Paducah areas. I could be wrong about that. I know Alltel still has numerous areas still using analog, and everytime I used to hit the Michigan side of the state line, my...
