Verizon and the end of analog towers...

I think I might have missed this along the way...

I have heard Verizon will stop using analog altogether sometime in the next 12 to 18 months. Can someone confirm this for me?

By the way, I have been very pleasantly surprised by the performance of my Razr. I had until the end of February to upgrade and take advantage of by NE2 money, so, even though I was fairly happy with the Nokia 6256i I got free from a friend, I wanted to test drive the Razr anyhow, fully expecting to return it within the grace period. My Verizon reps told me back in January that analog should be gone by the end of this year. I would guess that it would be closer to end of 2007 than 2006.

We have lots of analog here (northern wyoming) and to see that analog is gone and the prospect of new towers being built. Hooray!!

Were you drivin' when this happened? Cuz I hear that with trimode phones, the call can be handed off from a digital tower to an analog one (tower handoffs happenin' while your changing location/drivin', a'course), but the analog towers can't handoff to the digital ones, so you'll drop the call then.

Analog is still great for givin' you coverage where digital ain't, but if your drivin' through mixed analog/digital country, can be a prob. In that sit...

Yep, I sure was driving, and I think you are dead right about the handoff. I might, just for the heck of it, try resetting the Nok to digital only and see how that works, but truthfully, I really do like the Razr's performance.

From what I've heard, I'd expect the Nokia an' the Razr to perform pretty similarly when it comes to digital-only. But tell us how it goes, bro.

/beg off

sorry bout that...I really wanted that phone, but had to settle for the e815.
