All this 3G stuff is great faster better streaming whatnot. cool! But what does this really mean for the average consumer (me). I'm not talking pc cards I personally have know use for that I'm just talking Vcast. In my opinion Vcast is a joke and offers me nothing. ( not to offend anyone who likes it) but I used it and found nothing worthwhile for me. Everything I found on Vcast I can get online for free and better. So my question is I'm I missing something to be excited about? And my other question is will I care more so in the future then I do now? What's really going to knock my socks off with 3G? I just want to be sure I'm not missing something. Thank you 🙂

Live TV is the future. I dont mean limited I mean unlimited live tv to your mobile phone on a good sized screen, its coming soon and Verizon/LG will be the ones to bring it to you.
thats my prediction anyway.

sprint will have it first

Probably so, but how well will it work. I'm in the KC area - my office is about 3 blocks from the Sprint HQ - and they are not the #1 provider in this area. More like the laughing-stock.

the benefit is a bigger paycheck to the executives. seriously though, i don't think that where it is now is where 3g will end. streaming TV will be a big part, maybe some streaming music, and maybe, just maybe, video chat. that's where i see it going anyways, from what i've been told. the hope is to make everything able to be done through the network (TV, voice, internet) to "simplify" it for the customers (and line the providers' pockets). i have high hopes for it, i just hope everyone doesn't screw it up. sprint/verizon i think will do well. especially sprint (and that pains me to say).

That is why I asked the question because I want to have a better understanding of it's future potential. 🙂 This type of info helps

It's gonna have to get a whole lot faster for any of that stuff. Vcast is a joke to ME because of how slow it is. It takes almost as long to download and buffer the damn clips as it does to watch them. I laugh my ass off when I see the Vcast Music commercials. They make it out like you can download a song in one or two seconds. It takes nearly a minute to access the freakin' browser! So far the best part about Vcast is the unlimited airtime for Mobile Web. Not because I use it often, but because when I do, I tend to forget to end the sessions, and then I'll come back and see I've been on the thing for and hour.
...
i've heard people on here say that, but, it's been my experience (pittsburgh/ philadelphia) that i can get on pretty fast (about the same amount of time as mobile web takes to load) and the download of a song takes around 10-15 seconds. as for the clips, they take a little longer to download, but the streaming stuff buffers in less than 5 seconds.

future potential is... a new boat for the VPs! maybe a few extra data commission dollars for me...

LOL OK thanks guys anyone else have anything jump on in. I guess I'm not missing anything 🙂 still sounds like a bunch of hyped up nothing for awhile atleast.

Nothing much compelling for 3G yet. But it is the gadget freaks like those of us on this forum that enable the carriers to keep moving forward. Sooner or later there will be some killer app that will make it all worthwhile.

well i just did a post to you, but i dont think it is hype, becuase you will see some changes in this industry especially that has to do with data speeds and content.. i think 3g is a good start, but 4g will be out of this world.

I had Sprint PCS Vision and liked it (Live TV)....actually useful. What I didn't like was the 5 minute auto-disconnect unless you keep it alive. Sprint offered full length movies, but I sure don't see how you could watch them when every 5 minutes they cut out. Oh, and the swimsuit channel wasn't too shabby either 😁
I see absolutely nothing about VCast that would interest me, plus the fact it's very limited in coverage.
Now if Sprint would get their act together with their phone and customer service, that would have kept me.

good questions gunny...
i think 3g+ is going to be changing this whole wireless industry to provide new products and services. this will obviously allow customers to pick from differnt technologies, content, and other products and solutions. things that can be done in 3g+ technology are very interesting; video conferencing, better push to talk solution, transmitting a lot of data such as pictures, movies, things of that nature, the use of watching live tv and other real time products and others.
i think with 3g consumers would get very excitting but i think people will get more exciting when 4g data networks come out.
your v-cast system on verizon will improve becuase it will allow verizon to get highier speeds and better and ric...
