LG VX-8100 Crippled

I signed a new contract with verizon last week, and purchased the LG VX-8100 (mainly for the mp3 player) I really like the phone, except for the fact that I can't use my mp3s for ringtones. I read today that they crippled that feature, and the only way to get new ringtones is to purchase them from verizon. (go figure) Does anyone know if there are plans to un-cripple this feature? The first thought that pops into my head is why they only do this on a few of their phones? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pretty much any phone that has Get It Now will not let you use MP3 ringtones. You must purchase them from Get It Now.

or you can get a data cable and bitbim. It isn't hard. Verizon doesn't want you to do it, doesn't mean it can't be done.
