you dont need vcast to get the vcast games however most of them use airtime and the vcast vpak for 15$ includes unlimited airtime for playing the vcast games.
in my opinion its worth it but it depends on your needs.

the graphics are circa PS1. not too bad. i've played the callaway gof game, and it was worth it i think. haven't tried the NFS game yet, but i may in the near future. vcast is only worth it if you
-live in a vcast market or
-are a heavy phone/internet user or
-travel to vcast markets often and like the videos and music
you can get the games without the vcast and without being in a vcast market.
