Radioshack

RadioShack reported its first-quarter profit plunged 85 percent, hurt by weak wireless sales and inventory write-downs.

I think they made a huge mistake by going with Cingular over Verizon. I'm loving this! 🤣

When people realize that Verizon is not all that great then they will lose customers. The crippling of the bluetooth and questionable in building coverage especially in Chicago, I can't understand how Verizon adds that many people.

As for Radioshack They were down for other reasons besides Verizon leaving. I think that it will take maybe a year or longer for the whole cingular transition to take effect.

Hopefully people will realize that Verizon is not the only good carrir out there.

I don't know, maybe because this so-called discrepancy in building penetration is endemic to all carriers? Seriously, did you not see Stan Sigman's speech last year about how all carriers need to do better at letting their clients know that if their FM radio won't penetrate into their office their phone might not either?

Oh, I'm sorry. You're a Radio Shack employee. You probably haven't learned to read just yet.

It was Verizon's CEO that said:

"Why in the world would you think your (cell) phone would work in your house?"

Didn't Sigman say the same thing? In any case, whoever said it is right on. I'm sorry, but you're incredibly naive if you think that cellular service is automatically going to penetrate into your house or, worse yet, your apartment complex. If it does, great. If it doesn't... well, that's one of the reasons why every carrier gives you 15 to 30 days to try out service.

'Naive' or not, it is a HUGE selling point if your carrier has good indoor reception.

In fact, its one of the biggest reasons I'm with Verizon, they work GREAT indoors for me, much better than say, Sprint, which was always a crapshoot inside (I'm guessin' 'cuz of the 1900 MHz band they use, which doesn't penetrate buildings too well).

So I think the 'naive' one is the Verizon CEO, he doesn't seem to get that indoors performance sells cellphone contracts, and how. 😳

Right, and again that's why everyone has the 15 to 30 days. The problem is that wireless phones are by definition wireless and if you're in an are where we can't send you the radio waves, you're simply not going to get service. Sorry about that. We're working on it, but it's neither a guarantee nor something that people ought to expect from any carrier in the short term.

That being said, the service does work great for a lot of people inside of their houses. One of the things that I like about Verizon is that we really do try to underpromise and overdeliver. I'd rather be in a position where I tell you your phone might not work somewhere and have you delighted that I was wrong and it does than tell you that it does work and have you hacke...

For your information I can read and I do know what I am talking about. To think that just becasue I am a radioshack employee that I can't read is just plain ignorant. I only stated that verizon does not work in buildings in Chicago. If it works for you great but it is not the best for everyone.

Whats odd. I just talked to a Verizon rep. he told me that the area where my house is at is a known bad area, reception wise. When asked, he told me he doesn't know of any plans to improve the reception.

I hope it improves. I know Cingular has towers like right there.
