what happened to 22 months?

quin24

i was understood that if you have the phone for 22 months, you become eligible. when did this change? i got my first phone for verizon in august of '02. then upgraded in july 1st of '04. im ready to upgrade again, then i check my account which says im not eligible. so i read this from verizon.com...

You must retain the same wireless handset for 24 months in order to receive the full advantages of this program. If you choose to replace your handset at a discounted price, you will forfeit your benefits and be automatically reenrolled if you meet the requirements of the program. If you enrolled in the program on or after 11/25/02, you must take advantage of the New Every Two offer within six months of becoming eligible; otherwise, you may be...

yes, online accounts may take a while to catch up. nothing binds your NE2 unless you take a promotional agreement i.e. merits program. and there is no way in hell anyone is eligable to upgrade BEFORE NE2 is available. so this vzwinagent guy may have it a little twisted.

You are confusing New Every 2 and a regular upgrade. You can upgrade a phone after 22 months. If you want to receive your New Every 2 credit which is basically on top of the upgrade you have to wait the full 24 months. Only primary lines get the New Every 2, your other lines will simply get regular upgrades.

so how do you know when you can do a regular upgrade? is there anything on my online account that indicates it? also, how much ($) is it off a phone's price?

Regular upgrade is usually the same prices you'll see online at Verizon Wireless website. It's pretty much the same price a new customer gets with a new 2 year contract. New Every 2 will give you up to an extra 100 off on your primary line. You are eligible for a regular upgrade 22 months after your last upgrade. I think you can find it somewhere on the my account online section or simply call customer service and they can tell you.

? i've NEVER seen anyone eligable for upgrade before NE2.

ne2 is 22 months into having a contract and is only affected if he takes a promotion binding his NE2. i.e. merits is one of those promotions that with bind his NE2.

Verizon does not prorate it If you sign a contract today 5-1-06 it expires on 5-1-08 should you cancel on 5-7-08 it's still $175
Cellular One also prorates the Etf at $20 per month for time remaining on your contract.

If Verizon Wireless is in a market that requires pro-rating the ETF, then they have to prorate it. I don't know which markets require pro-rating, but some of the brochures I saw show that certain markets of Indiana have pro-rating ETF's. Unfortunately I don't live in a prorating market, since Gary Indiana is part of the Chicago market.

its 175.00 if cancel before 24 months are up. but as shown if you signed up on 5/1/06 for 2 year. you would have to wait till 5/1/08 to cancel. but if you go past that date and dont resign a contract. then you are month to month. and can cancel at anytime with out having to pay a etf fee.

It depends on which market you live in. In some markets, all wireless carriers have to do a pro-rated ETF, which typically is $240 minus how many months left on the contract. In other markets, like Milwaukee & Chicago, it's a flat rate ETF. Verizon charges a flat $175 ETF, Cingular is $150, Sprint $175, Nextel $200, T-Mobile, $200, and if I'm correct, US Cellular is $200. In my brother's area, Knox Indiana, only Verizon Wireless & Centennial Wireless serve his area, and Centennial Wireless charges a $250 ETF. A...

Yes Best Buy does upgrades, but they charge $50 more for an upgrade than for someone signing up for Verizon Wireless for the first time. That is a major ripoff. A new subscriber shouldn't get the better deal on the phone than someone who's had service for a year or more. If someone is going to go thru a reseller, go with one that charges the same price for both new subscribers and upgrades.

Circuit City, yes. CC isn't an indirect agent; they're actually a "store within a store" where the workers are literally employed by VZW and the place is, for all intents and purposes, a corporate location. The Best Buy guy is just blowing smoke into a part of your body that you probably don't want smoke being blown into.

With Circuit City in mind, people can use their NE2 at Circuit City locations, while people can't at Best Buy. As for Best Buy, I believe the replier who replied to me that mentioned that Verizon tells Best Buy how much to charge; I don't believe that Verizon tells Best Buy to charge $50 extra to the price of the phone for an upgrade, while the new subscriber gets the bet...

If you want good service and clear explanations go to a direct store please. Circuit City or a VZ store. The indirect agents do what they want, charge what they want, etc. You can not do a newe2 at best buy, walmart, etc. or an early upgrade there either.

Just for the record, I might be posting this twice, but Best Buy charges $50 more for an upgrade than for someone who is signing up for the first time. If someone is willing to pay more for an upgrade at Best Buy, that's their choice, but I find that a major ripoff that an upgrading customer gets a crappy deal, while the new subscriber gets the best deals. If someone wants to go with a reseller, it's best to go to one that charges the same price, whether the person is a new subscriber or an upgrading customer.

Make yourself an account and you will be able to search for all v3c intrest.

But anyways once you learn to nav the site you will find a wealth of information. But to get you started go to the verizon forum, then under that you will see a section for verizon phones, then go to motorola etc. Have fun good stuff in there.

So, what this is telling me is...in two years, when I qualify for my upgrade..if i dont do so in 6 months..id have to pay full retail to do the upgrade.

That just talked me out of Verizon. Cingular, T-Mo, Sprint don't do that. When ur eligable..ur eligable..no time limits to upgrade at dscounted price.

I think that the whole 6 month thing is bullshit...at the end of this contract..im switching.

Not one person on this post knows what they are talking about. When signing up for new service you have the choice of a 1 year or 2yr contract. If you sign a 1 yr contract you will be elig for a standard upgrade in 10 months. At that time you can choose to sign a 1 yr or 2 yr extension to get the 1 yr or 2 yr promo pricing on a new phone. The difference between every phones 1 yr and 2 yr price thru CS, Retail and telesales is $50. On an original 2 yr contract you will be elig in 22 months and have the option to extend another 2 yrs to get ne2 pricing. At no time after your upgrade elig date will you lose that elig unless you lower your calling plan to 34.98 or lower.

Actually on a 1 year contract you're eligible for upgrade at 11 months, not 10.

A possible reason for Best Buy charging more for an upgrade (not that I support it) is Verizon pays them less for it. My company is paid on a percentage of the commission Verizon pays us. They pay more for higher price plans and they pay less for upgrades.

You're upgrade eligibility does not go away after 6 months. I work at an indirect so I don't know the ins and outs of the NE2. I only know enough to explain it to customers.

quin - You first asked about NE2 and upgrades you then asked about ETF's. If you choose to use your NE2 OR an upgrade you will be signing another contract so you will have another 2 years to wait before canceling free and clear. ...

So, I'm a bit late here, but as somebody who works with MyAccount, let me give the skinny for the online...There is absolutely no different in pricing between upgrading with CS, Telesale, or MyAccount, except that with MyAccount you will get the instant rebate (if you have problems, CS may help you, but telesales works off commission...). If you are checking for your New Every 2 date, check the upgrade link by the picture of your phone after logging in, and it should say when you eligible to the New Every 2 discount toward the top right of the page. And as of this time, everybody eligible for $100 NE2 discount will get it if they had not price plan/promo changes to their account after Feb 5, 2005. Thus, the promotion goes through Dec 5, 2...

In 22 months you qualify for your upgrade. If you don't take it then that's fine. It's ready for you when you want to do it. It doesn't go away and then you have to pay full retail. If it was like that.. that would be ridiculous.

There are no time limits to use your upgrade at VZ!
